Thanks, Brethil, I think everyone is good at this. Wicked fun!

I'm confused where to start, so I backed up to yours and skipped Sador's Hell. (Good novel title, btw, Sador, so start writing it.)

A compilation to date. What a collection we have. [In reply to] Can't Post

Sir Dennis you have inspired quite set of twisty, funny and some amazingly profound sayings with this game of yours. Some of them are absolutely priceless and should be adopted immediately.
I do hope I captured everyone's ideas, please please if anything is amiss let me know and I will edit or add as needed.

When life hands you lemons, it's better than two in the bush.

Early to bed and early to rise is the root of all evil.

Early to bed and early to rise helps one clever Ranger perfect his disguise.

A stitch in time! What will the line stretch out to th' Crack of Doom?

You can lead a horse to water - et dona ferentes.

A stitch in time, time you thief!

"Some like it hot" is the spice of life.

An apple a day keeps the Wizard away.

All work and no play spoils the broth.

People who live in glass houses gather no moss.

Time heals like an arrow.

Every bullet has his day.

Live fast, die young, and be merry.

Let sleeping dogs keep the doctor away.

A stitch in time deserves another.

Revenge is a dish best served with some fava beans and a nice Chianti.

If at first you don't succeed, search for the answer on Wikipedia.

He who laughs last is worth a thousand words.

All roads lead a horse to water.

Remember, remember, Middle Earth belongs in December!

To err is human, to Hoom is Entish.

Ask not for whom the bell tolls, it tools for Bree.

A picture is worth the paper its printed on.

The early bird gets the Wormtongue.

Lead a horse to water...
... and he'll paw at it and soak you and go down for a nice roll with you still aboard, ruining your nice boots and saddle and....
...but porcupines are better swimmers (or hedgehogs, if you're on the other side of the planet)...
...and it'll be a horse of a different color
...but that only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades...
...and I have to pee like a racehorse....

A stitch in time...
..will hold your horses...
...will never be seen on a galloping horse...

Time you thief
...
...is water under the bridge....
...is a ship that passes in the night...
...is three sheets in the wind...
...let's sleep on it and talk about it in the morning...
...let's sleeping dogs lie...

People who live in glass houses
...
...seldom get passes...
...hate when the chickens come home to roost...

To err is human
...
... pantry devastation and dishwashing is Dwarvish...
...leaving a perfectly good set of horse gear on the Plains of Rohan is Legolish...

The early bird wakes up the Dragon.

A picture is worth (this)... if you can't run with the big dogs, stay on the porch, and get some great action photos...

If it ain't broke spoils the broth.

On the first part of the journey, there was a fly in the ointment. (Or alternately a Balrog in the woodpile.)

Don't cut off your nose (unless it) offend thee; cut it off and cast it from thee.

Don't cut off your nose - lend me your ears!

Hell hath no fury like the fan down under who cannot get the DVD.

The little dog laughed to see such sport and the Hobbit ran away with the Ring.

Carry on like a redheaded stepchild.

A fool and his money walk into Mordor.

And so the lion don't fear the Reaper.

Theres's more than one way to Amarillo.

Do not meddle in the affairs of Wizards or I shall taunt you a second time.

A rose by any other name...are you alone, yourself and nameless? (I am the friend of bears and guest of
eagles.) ...and small rag-tag that dangle at your tail.

A friend in need gets the grease.

A watched pot never made the heart grow fonder.

I will not say, Do not weep, for not all tears attract weevils.

Out of sight of Mother makes nicking cookies easier.

Hell hath no fury like a Dragon who is missing a cup.

I see the little silhouetto of a man, in the land of Mordor where the Shadows lie.

The rain in Spain falls mainly on Dain and Thrain.

It's like throwing the baby out at the old ball game.

Elementary my dear Prudence.

One does not simply ignore an Estrogen Island thread.

Never laugh at the Knights who say Ni.

Words without thoughts make the world go 'round.

I came, I saw crowds of people sitting on the grass with flowers in their hair.

So I'm packing my bags, and Mrs. Wagner's pies / and we walked off to look for America.

All the world's a stage and all the Dwarves are really just actors.

One small step for Man, one giant leap for a Hobbit.

That's no moon, it's my Hammy.

The wise inherit honour, but the foolish Took is put to shame.

Wow, just wow. [In reply to] Can't Post

I KNOW this must have taken you forever. Thank you so very much for doing this! Wow... did I say wow?

You're right, now that they're in a list, it's easier to see that there are some real pearls -- may they never be "cast before swine, lest they trample them and turn on us."

I suppose it was more difficult than it needed to be because of the way the game was set up. If we ever do this again in future, perhaps the format should be:

-- Thread starter posts the start of the first phrase
-- Sib A reposts that phrase in their subject line and their continuation in the post. Then they start another phrase...
-- Sib B reposts Sib A's new partial phrase in their subject line and then answer it in their post. Then they start another phrase...
-- and so on, and so on Crazy

Thank you again Brethil, and for the good energy you bring to the place.

x

"I no doubt deserved my enemies, but I don't believe I deserved my friends."

After snow shovelling in the cold your kind reply really, truly warmed up my heart. Blush It was a very pleasureable task, reading the amazing wit and creativity of our many friends.

Indeed, we should do it again and your above idea will give it more clarity from post to post.

I send thanks back to you, for your wit, kindness and humor.
