ARGHH! May 1st! Can't Post

Does New Zealand *have* to take this particular opportunity to prove that things happen slowly down here? The DVD/Blu-ray release date has just been announced as May 1st. May 1st!!! Is anywhere else on Earth getting it this late? Apart from, perhaps, Tierra del Fuego where it must travel by Guanaco Express, or the top of Mt Everest? The movies were *filmed* here, for Eru's sake! Why do we have to get it six weeks later than the US?

I'd be happy to forward on a copy of the DVD when it's released in the UK. Would it get to you in time though?

Aww, Daniel... [In reply to] Can't Post

Thanks for the offer! Much appreciated. However, I've just thumbed my nose at the system and ordered it from Amazon.com (for about twice what I'd pay in the store, if I had the patience to wait!). We have a region-free DVD player, so this works for us, but lots of people here won't have that option. Estimated arrival date with the mid-level expedited shipping: March 26th - April 2nd. *fingers crossed for March 26th*

AUJ was released in theaters here on Dec. 12th -- weren't we the first country to see it? -- so I really am curious what it is (besides just the general New-Zealand's-a-bit-behind-the-times thing) that makes the DVD/Blu-ray come out so late here!

I don't get why ... [In reply to] Can't Post

Films and their DVDs are released at different dates worldwide. I can get why it might be delayed in some countries, but there it's absurd that US gets a film or DVD X weeks (or even months!) before the UK (and NZ in your case). There really is no reason in this day and age.

I'm glad you've got it sorted though. I hadn't thought of just importing it!

Well... [In reply to] Can't Post

they still haven't given a release date for Australia.

I've already preordered mine from Amazon, and paid the extra for fast delivery, all of our DVD/Blu-ray players are region free too, but it's still bl@@dy annoying!

Starting to feel that we southerners are second class citizens Frown

What's even crazier [In reply to] Can't Post

is that making the release date so late "downunder" a lot of NZ and Oz fans will just wait for the EE's. As they're supposed to come out only a few weeks after the NZ release date Unsure

Not a clever marketing ploy to be honest.

That this sort of thing happens.I'm not 100% sure when the UK release date is but I'm pretty sure the US will get it first.I know that its region free etc etc and I'm certainly not having a pop at America,I have a great respect for the US,but it is hugely stupid and massively annoying to people the world over when this happens.about time the studios stopped doing it.

Arrow....black arrow,I have saved you to the last.you have never failed me and always I have recovered you.I had you from my father and he from old.if ever you came from the forges of the true king under the mountain,go now and speed well

It doesn't make sense [In reply to] Can't Post

for it to be so late to NZ or anywhere to be honest. I could see a week either way but six weeks is really pretty silly when as you said you can just get a copy from the States and probably have it before that six weeks is up.Movies do this all the time. The new Iron Man film this summer comes out in the EU April 24 and then in the US on May 3. The way they do things doesn't make sense.

Ro, That is a shame. I second the import offer [In reply to] Can't Post

to anyone that needs one. Seriously. I would mail it to you gladly, fast post as possible.

How awful to have to wait. I have a region-free player for my New Tricks dvds, I never thought about how many region issues you guys have if US releases are earliest. GRRrrrrrr is right. No one should have to wait to get Thorin into the house.

Hoping for all of you that Amazon slams a Red Bull and gets it out for 26th or sooner!

(I'm reading you folks are dry and parched too. How I wish I could send you some of our precipitation...I have to slog through three inches of mud to refill bird feeders, and more coming in now.)

If you lot [In reply to] Can't Post

get it before we do, I'm going to thumb my nose in your general direction. Wink

Just read yesterday too that DOS is being released in Australia on Boxing Day. That's late! Not sure if we get it then too, or earlier.

And are all your Blu-ray players really region-free? Is that something new or have they always been like that? I don't know much about these things. We had to buy a new DVD player about 18 months ago, and had to have a region-free one because about half our DVDs are either from the US or Germany. We briefly considered upgrading to a Blu-ray player but we were firmly assured by all the salesmen that none of them were region-free. The only DVD player we could get region-free was a cheap one, which so far is working well but not as nice as the older one that had given up the ghost.

The Lonely DVD Song:

Far over the Amazon Mountains rise
Leave us sadly, feeling slighted
What was before, we see once more
Our kingdom, distantly lighted
Majestic blu-ray, beneath the moon
The words unspoken, we see our doom
the wait and wait and wait that looms
Till 2020 15 June

Some folk we never forget
Some kind we never forgive
Haven’t seen the back of us yet
We’ll fight as long as we live
All eyes on the blu-ray prize
To the electronics store borne
We’ll bunny-sled in the gathering storm
Until we get our region free DVD

We lay under the Misty Mountains bor-ed
In slumbers deep and dreams of Thorin
We must have Fili, and our Kili
And in the dorkness a torch we hold

From long ago when lanterns burned
Till this day our hearts have yearned
Her fate astray, the Hobbit blu-ray
What was delayed must be returned

Commandeer the Tardis and Dr. Who
To find our Dwarves and Bilbo too

Some folk we never forget
Some kind we never forgive
Haven’t seen the stone giant scene
Enough to know which nephew’s screamed
Haven’t seen the end of it yet
We’ll fight as long as we live
All eyes on the Extras plunder
Assemble Avengers and make some thunder,
Commandeer Yoda and a ship, I wonder?
no one from us, the Hobbit, will sunder,
Far away in Lonely Lands Down Under

Go outside and play...

I got it on Amazon after researching for weeks. So I have it parked next to the regular DVD player, and so far it has given me no trouble with the UK dvds. There was a code to enter on the remote to make it Zero Region (region free) but it wasn't a secret or anything...there was either a link on the Amazon site or it was in the directions, I cant remember which. Its very slim too. I can get your more product info if you need it.
