Walk to Rivendell and Beyond: There and Back Again Challenge! Can't Post

Greetings, TORn walkers, shovelers, swimmers, runners, shovelers and all! How go your journeys this fine (or nasty; there's no vouching for weather...) week?

There and Back Again
Group Challenge Progress

Miles covered last week: 89.1
Cumulative miles: 10961.35
Miles along the journey: 730.76
Miles out of Rivendell: 333.76

Yes, we're still in Mirkwood Forest, Fili. Yes, it is quite dark, Ori. No, Kili, we're not there yet! And get those smirks off your faces! Tch, young dwarves can be so annoying!

My progress:
Miles covered this week: 3
Cumulative miles: 481
Goal: There and Back Again!

Have I mentioned how glad I'll be when Girl Scout cookie season is done? This Sunday. Sunday evening, to be exact. Plus a couple days of closing out the books. The lack of exercise is starting to stress me out. Maybe that's why the younger dwarves are doing such a thorough job of pushing my buttons - knock it off, guys! Go fight goblins for a while!

Beamer's progress:
Miles covered this week: 7
Cumulative miles: 480
Goal: Group Challenge

No more snow! [In reply to] Can't Post

So I am back to a more typical contribution of 23.5 miles this week. Mostly trips to the gym and walks with the dog. Smile

On my personal journey from Bag End to the Lonely Mountain, I'm still trudging steadily on south of the the seemingly endless Midgewater Marshes. Though I suppose they would seem even more endless if I were trudging *through* them!

Getting a bit better... [In reply to] Can't Post

Dry weather here, which is good for walking, although it's still cold.

Miles covered this week: 33.4
Cumulative miles: 177.4
Goal: There and Back Again!

Am I past those yucky Midgewater Marshes yet? No particular occurrences on the road.

Yup! [In reply to] Can't Post

You have passed them. In fact, what you currently see off to the north is Weathertop.

Way to move ahead! I should be there next week. Smile

Cookies and lack of exercise [In reply to] Can't Post

What a scary combination! TOSS some button-pushing Dwarves in the mix, and you've got a recipe for disaster! *winkie, wink* On the other hand... as one who did the Girl Scout Cookie organizing for a couple of years, I totally sympathize, m'dear! They're so lucky to have someone as dedicated as you to take care of them. *applauds*

Well... I've been a bit "on the go" for the past couple of weeks, so I've got 2-weeks of miles to offer. I had my basically normal activity the week of the 14th, but then came last weekend. Last Friday (22nd) I stared doing a bunch of airport trotting, but early Saturday to very late Monday... I was working TORn's One Expected Party... our Oscars Party to celebrate our nominees for The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. We set up the 3-floor American Legion Hall in Hollywood, California... the same hall used for the 2004 Oscar Party where LotR swept the Academy Awards with 11 wins! The Hall is within sight of the famous HOLLYWOOD sign on the hill and just down the road from where the Oscars were held. There was lots of stairs, boxes, staging, props... great exercise! Then, more airport trotting.

Just as I drove home, a massive snow storm was escorting me. Thankfully I got hom before the roads got real bad. The next morning, however, I was outside at 5:15am shoveling that heavy, wet 10 inches of snow... taking a solid 2 hours to clear the driveway enough to get out and get to work, albeit a bit late ;) I'm in the process of writing up a report of my weekend with loads of pics... so stay tuned!

With all of that, I totaled 72 miles for the 2 weeks of action!

In HOBBITY terms, Gandalf, Bilbo and I have left Rivendell on our way back to the Shire. We've made it to the Troll's hoard and recovered the long-term deposit made there. We gave the actual Stone-trolls a wide berth and have crossed the Last Bridge.

2/21-2/28
Miles covered: 72
Cumulated miles: 1802
Goal: #2 Unexpected Journey Individual Challenge and contributing to the Group :)

Thanks for keeping us on the Road, Arandiel :) *waves to Fellow Travellers* Stay safe, everyone!

Three week hiatus--sorry! [In reply to] Can't Post

My family and I got sick, so the past three weeks have been spent being sick and recovering. But, I did manage to get SOME mileage in! I'm so glad to see the progress the rest of the team is still making, and I hope next week I'll have more miles to add! Keep going guys!Cool

last three weeks: 17.8
cumulative: 890.2
goal: There and Back Again Group Challenge!!

Spring is around the corner guys--I'm so HAPPY!Laugh I can't wait to see my garden in bloom. I already have bulbs and seeds planted, with a few more to do.

By the way, I was wondering--do any of you have blogs or facebook? Cause I'd love to get to know you guys even better! I think that'd be tremendous fun. WinkHeart

"It's like in the great stories Mr. Frodo. The ones that really mattered. Full of darkness and danger they were. And you didn't want to know the end...for how could the end be happy? How could the world go back to the way it was when so much bad had happened? But then you realize in the end it's just a passing thing, this shadow. A new day will come! And when the sun shines it will shine out the clearer. Those were the stories that stuck with you, that meant something. Even if you were too small to understand. But I think Mr. Frodo, I do understand. I know now. The folk in those stories a lot of chances of turnin' back only they didn't. They kept going, because they were holdin' on to something."
"What are we holding onto, Sam?"
"That there's some good in this world, Mr. Frodo. And it's worth fighting for!"

It really is easier ;) [In reply to] Can't Post

No snow and warmer weather is quickly moving in my direction, too. I miss my 4-mile walks around the block where I live in the country. I scour the treelines for movements of travellers on a Quest and watch the gravel roads for pebbles and small stones to build hobbit holes with.

Journey on, arithmancer!! See you on the road!

You've cleared the Marshes! [In reply to] Can't Post

And Weathertop is in front of you up the road. I've just passed the Stone-trolls and crossed the Last Bridge...headed your way! We're about 148 miles apart. We'll have to stop and have a little road-side moot when we meet up :D

I'm so glad the weather is dry, but getting warmer would be better. That makes it much more fun :)

Oh no! I'm glad everyone is feeling better... [In reply to] Can't Post

It soulds like it spread through like a fire! You'd get mileage just running for meds, water, and dealing with the aftermath of all of that.

I have a facebook account, but I haven't been using it. I barely have time for posting on TORn!! ;) I did promise TORnsibs I just saw at the One Expected Party that I'd get plugged in, but it won't be until after I finish up some TORn projects and my Oscar report. ;)

*puts on sunglasses* "I'll be back"

(sorry, I've been watching The Terminator ;)

Yeah, it did...but we're back on our feet! [In reply to] Can't Post

I'm glad we're much better. And we actually got some mileage in today, if only a little bit. I allow myself a Sunday break, but it was so nice out today. And I completely understand how time can get stretched--I'm always finding ways to manage my time, and then I have to change it again! But whenever you get back on facebook, let me know. I'd love to be buds. HeartWink

Ah, you got to go to the One Expected Party! How awesome! I think that would be tremendous fun! I hope they do one for each release--and I really hope if they do, that I can go to the last one. The likelihood of anything sooner is not good. (And even that would be with a lot of luck!)

And by the way, the Terminator is awesome. I actually got to see some of the third movie yesterday! It's so funny, at parts. Cool (I think it was the third one....)

Save your pennies! [In reply to] Can't Post

There are parties for each Oscars that had The Hobbit in there for nominations. The only reason we won't have one is if TORn can't afford it. TORn pays for it ourselves, so the tickets, t-shirts, contributions, etc. are what will make it happen. So after the next 2 films, there will be 2 more parties (2014, 2015), then that's it! No more Tolkien/Jackson films... so no more TORn Oscar Parties! *sniffle*

They really are incredible. If I make it to anymore, I'm going in costume ;)

Oh YAY! [In reply to] Can't Post

I'm so happy to hear that! I'm going to have to put up a sign or something on my wall, with a list of things to shoot for in the next few years. So yes--I need to be definitely saving my pennies! And I would totally want to go in costume--I actually had a costume design drawn out for the premiere of The Hobbit, but my dad said he wouldn't take me in costume--he draws the line there. He's not a nerd, obviously. And I didn't manage to go to the premiere anyway, but oh well. Maybe another of the movies. But it would be so cool if I was able to go to one of the Parties, and I met you there! That would be awesome!HeartLaugh
