The FOTR TImeline Can't Post

I was thinking about the timeline in the FOTR movie some say it's a it's a few months time but that wouldn't work in the movie

I think it's about a year though in the FOTR EE Bilbo clearly states it's September 22nd. When Frodo arrives in Rivendell Gandalf says it's October 24. Gandalf says he looked everywhere for Gollum

so you're telling me he rode to Gondor found Isuldur's scroll searched for Gollum and made it back to Hobbiton in a few weeks time to send Frodo to Rivendell on foot and Frodo made it there by October 24? that doesn't seem possible so that's why I think it was more like a year between Bilbo's party and Frodo starting out on the quest

Plus he still had to go through the old Forest and the barrow downs even if we didn't see it I'm citing "stay off the road" on this one. another example Aragorn is 87 during the movie so without the 20 or so year difference like the book he'd be 27 during The Hobbit movies seventeen years older then he is supposed to be so have PJ and the rest messed up the time frame or what?

At least a year... [In reply to] Can't Post

Yes, I've been stating almost all along that at least one year must pass between Bilbo's party and when Frodo leaves the Shire. There is too much happening (even limiting things to what we see in the film) to be able to account for them in just one month. According to Tolkien it took that much time just for Frodo to leave the Shire and reach Rivendell.

On the other hand, how can anyone insist that seventeen years pass when Sam, Merry and Pippin are all shown to be adults at the time of Bilbo's eleventy-first birthday? Unlike Frodo, they don't have Rings of Power to keep them young.

So, at what point in the films does Aragorn reveal his age? It is in conversation with Eowyn, in RotK, when the forces of Rohan are gathering to ride to Gondor. According to Tolkien (but ignoring the given years) this happens in March, several days after Aragorn's given birthday. Tolkien tells us that the Fellowship set out from Rivendell on December 25 of the previous year.

- Jackson gives us Bilbo's party on September 22, 3000 (T.A.)
- Frodo presumably leaves the Shire in September of 3001 (best guess) to reach Rivendell on October 20.
- The Fellowship sets out on December 25, 3001.
- Aragorn turns 87 on March 1, 3002.
- Working backwards from Bilbo's eleventy-first birthday, he sets out with Thorin and Company on April, 28, 2940.
- There is a sixty-two year difference between the Quest for Erebor and Aragorn's eighty-seventh birthday.
- 87 - 62 tells us that Aragorn was twenty-five years old when the company stopped at Rivendell.

Well, it doesn't matter, if we can go by Tolkien. Gandalf and the Three Hunters didn't reach Edoras until March 2, the day after Aragorn's birthday.
