Globally it added about 6.6 million... [In reply to] Can't Post

Since last Sunday and it usually decreases by half each week.

$4.1 of that was international
$2.5 of that was US

I think it is safe to say that it will break $300 million in the US just after next weekend with it's US total now at $298.3.

My guess is that The Hobbit... [In reply to] Can't Post

Will have grossed approximately $960 million globally before it opens in China. It's actually holding pretty steady considering the available screens keep decreasing.

I went last night with my dad, to see it in HFR 3D and the theatre was almost full.

Okay [In reply to] Can't Post

Its hold in North America was very good, no small thanks to the Superbowl, which deflated last Sunday but even without it, it would have been a pretty decent drop. Unfortunately, same cannot be said for the holds overseas.

I think so. The way I have been following, you would think I was getting a percentage of the proceeds [In reply to] Can't Post

Tongue lol. But, this weekend's domestic estimate puts it at a total of about 298.3 million after about a one and a half million weekend profit, even with the massive snowstorm in New England. It now has about 19 days including two more weekends, to mass another 1.7 to 2 million or so before March begins with its back to back anticipated genre blockbusters.

So it just passed The Lion King (#18 on all-time worldwide)... [In reply to] Can't Post

And once it's run in China has ended, it will easily have passed movies 17-14. I bet that when all is said and done, TH;AUJ will end up on spot 12, dethroning A Phantom Menace, with approx 1,027 billion, or just below that. At the very least, it should end it's run above The Dark Knight (1,004 billion)

Not too shabby for Part l. [In reply to] Can't Post

Laugh

Part l's gross has covered all of the production costs for all 3 movies and probably the majority of the marketing. The Home Box Office will obviously help (hence the shift of movies and their markets and shorter runs in theaters.)

Fingers crossed for a great run in China.

I wish that I could say the same my friend!! [In reply to] Can't Post

But, Alas! All is not well!!
In the land of China, yesterday, a major blockbuster Chinese film called-"Journey To The West" was released. The film has been touted to make around $200 million. With the Hobbit being released at the end of the Chinese holidays, the effect that this film will have on The Hobbit remains to be seen. Lets hope for the best. I say that we are lucky if The Hobbit crosses $1 billion. The Chinese BO is a funny place with some Hollywood films being pulled out a week into their run.

Not really [In reply to] Can't Post

The studio gets only about half of the box office receipts. That probably doesn't cover production costs for all three. It's a lot of money but the movies also cost a lot.
