I think that we're not going to see Old Bilbo again. I think that we were just introduced to the idea of it being a young Bilbo and that the next two films won't take us back to the framing device.
There's a sad sort of clanging from the clock in the hall and the bells in the steeple, too.
And up in the nursery an absurd little bird is popping out to say coo-coo (coo-coo, coo-coo).
