Destruction of Lothlorien Can't Post

In the extended version dvd commentary, Peter Jackson states during the events of the Return of the King, Lothlorien is under attack and being set on fire. Is this in the books? I can't seem to recall it.

Hm... not sure... [In reply to] Can't Post

But I do believe that during the War of the Ring, in the early to late March, Orcs from Dol Guldur attacked the Golden Woods which then led to ships taking Lórien armies across the river Anduin and the taking of Dol Guldur.

..It makes my life so very worthwhile.
......And ever since the very start,
..You have always been there in my heart.
..Then I heard that you felt the same way,

Attacked, not destroyed... [In reply to] Can't Post

Lothlórien was attacked three times during the War of the Ring but survived each assault thanks to the Power of Galadriel and the bravery of the realm's border Guardians. Early in the Fourth Age, after Galadriel took ship for the West, Celeborn established East Lórien in Eryn Lasgalen (formerly Mirkwood Forest), south of the Narrows. At that time most of Lothlórien was deserted.

Only Sauron himself would've been able to destroy Lothlorien [In reply to] Can't Post

As it already was mentioned, forces from Dol Guldur attacked Lorien and Thranduils Woodland Realm during the War of the Ring. The final battles took place when Sauron also attacked Minas Tirith. All took place at the same time. Also there was an attack on Erebor (by Easterlings and Orcs). So Sauron attacked the whole world of free people what explains why there were no Elves (except Legolas) and Dwarves (except Gimli) at the Battle of Minas Tirith and later in front of the Black Gates. It was a worldwide assault by Mordor.

Especially talking about the last Battle of Lothlorien: I remember reading somewhere that Lothlorien was burning but not defeated because of Galadriel and her Ring of Power. It is also mentioned somewhere that only Sauron himself would've been able to destroy Lothlorien and defeat Galadriel. He wasn't there so Galadriel was able to defend her people.
