Tying Up the Loose Ends

Over at the TH forum I asked a question about Dain. Would we hear in some way about his feats in the War of the Ring? As much as I would love to see it, It's hard to see how his story can be added to the end of TABA. However, if TH Trilogy is going to be packaged with LOTR, there would be an opportunity to added a final "tying up loose ends" disc which would wrap of the stories of all the characters that we love. Perhaps it would even include Aragorn's passing and Legolas and Gimli sailing to the Blessed realm. What do you think?

I don't think that we need any of that on film...

If folks are really interested in that kind of information, they can learn about it from Tolkien's Appendices to LotR. There is no reason to film it as a home-video bonus feature.

Some serious practical issues...

It would require scripting, sets, sfx, and everything, unlike the commentaries and other features that can be shot along the way with minimal effort. Probably not sufficient value to go to the trouble.

They did film more of the 'aftermath' of The War of Ring, didn't they? With Gimli and Legolas going to the Glimmering Caves and Mirkwood and such? I hope it happens, but I don't think it will. Maybe we should hope to see a Game of Thrones-like series someday, which could cover it all: The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, with the aftermath of the war, the Scouring of the Shire, the hunt for Gollum, the others parts of Middle Earth during the War of the Ring and (more of) characters such as Dain Ironfoot, Glorfindel, Ghan Buri-Ghan, Beregond, the Rangers, Faramir, Eowyn, Radagast, Eomer and Imrahil.
