I'd say... [In reply to] Can't Post

late November / early December.

FotR and TTT both came out 18 November 2002/03, I think. Just in time so people could see it before the next theatrical film.

I think PJ said that, although the EEs "talked" to one another, they also added depth to the next theatrical release (which is true for Denethor, for example).

FOTR theatrical edition [In reply to] Can't Post

You can't look at LOTR DVD release to speculate on the Hobbit ones.

In 2002, FOTR theatrical edition was released in august. AUJ is expected for 18 march.

DVD are released a lot sooner today than 10 years ago. PJ also said that the cut of the EE was already done. I think it will be released during the summer.

DVD release [In reply to] Can't Post

Was it august for FOTR? I thought it was may or June.I'm probably wrong.just thinking though, when I was a kid we had to wait ages for a movie to come to video,as it was then.I remember seeing 'ghostbusters' at the cinema and having to wait more than a year to hire the video, and then for a film to make it to t.v. it was something like four years or more.haha, don't know how we coped, although it did add to the anticipation and therefore the enjoyment.I reckon the EE will be October or November to get everyone in the right head space again.

Arrow....black arrow,I have saved you to the last.you have never failed me and always I have recovered you.I had you from my father and he from old.if ever you came from the forges of the true king under the mountain,go now and speed well

the 'extended cut' may be finalised... [In reply to] Can't Post

but that does not necessarily mean that it has gone through post at this point. Also, I'd expect the extras to be one of the more time consuming aspects of the EE release.

It's also worth considering that a November release for some of the Lord of the Rings EE's was too soon for some regions to complete the localisation process and subtitling.

What I'm trying to say is, the increased wait for these editions is not solely due to an intended cash-in on the following film's marketing (although it certainly is a factor). Realistically, it will take some time to put together. Could it come out earlier than November? Certainly. However, I do think a winter 2013 release is the most likely.

You made me feel so much better [In reply to] Can't Post

This wait will be easier now! Evil

"I have found it is in the small things, everyday deeds of ordinary folk, that keep the darkness at bay. Simple acts of kindness and love. Why Bilbo Baggins? Perhaps it is because I am afraid, and he gives me courage." - Gandalf the Grey.

"Do not be afraid Mithrandir. You are not alone. If ever you should need my help, I will come." -Lady Galadriel.
