The Hobbit/Gandalf - Pencil Study
|
Can't Post

Sneak Peek. Work in progress. Just working on a series of Hobbit Pencil Studies. Black & White Prismacolor pencils on Grey Paper. A3 size. Have around 4 that i've got in mind of producing. Hope you like so far.... http://jasonbrian007.deviantart.com/art/The-Hobbit-Pencil-Study-351491823 I've linked it to another site as each time I upload the image here it only allows a 48.8KB image which would make this image very low resolution.

I am always amazed that this can simply be done with pencil. The beard is so well done, and I wouldn't even have a clue on how to do smoke! Very excited to see the finished product and the other ones you have in mind
Don't be hasty.

But this might be of interest http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-21234214 Its a guy who does pencil photo realism pictures which really do look like photos! - incredible. Some one should hire him to do the eyes for CGI, lol, though as his sketches go for 10,000 each i doubt they would have enough! Just thought you might be interested if you havent seen it already as it looks to be a similar way of drawing to yourself

A fitting and accurate portrait of my favourite Middle-Earth character. Very well done!
"These are Gundabad Wargs! They will outrun you!" "THESE are Rhosgobel Rabbits! I'd like to see them try...."

Gandalf looks really great. He has that twinkle in his eyes. It reminds me of the moment when Bilbo is reading the contract.
"If more of us valued food and cheer and song above hoarded gold, it would be a merrier world."

I really love the smoke curling from his pip and the expression on his face.

I use Prismacolor pencils, (usually with watercolor, sometimes with MiTientes paper), and they are just the best thing ever. You have an excellent sense of portraiture. The MiTientes paper comes in a variety of colors and has a nice texture (mildly toothy, like eggshell).
Go outside and play...
