Nice cover! [In reply to] Can't Post

Is it official?

So most likely official. It's a bit "meh" in my opinion.

Will have the look of leather-bound books like the previous trilogy had. They just save those kind of covers for the collectors ;)

Interestingly, Amazon shows "No Image Available" [In reply to] Can't Post

When you follow the link for pre-order, it doesn't show that cover. So it may be a placeholder.

It should show up on Amazon in a couple days. [In reply to] Can't Post

The image just got released today, and will likely show up on other sites within the week. Blu-ray.com already had a placeholder image up for the past couple months (it even said "Artwork TBA" on it).

Here's the news page from today - http://www.blu-ray.com/news/?id=10372

With the disc coming out in just under two months, I expect this to be the final cover.

99.9% certain there will be. [In reply to] Can't Post

The only instance I can recall where there wasn't a dvd only release was for 'The Tree of Life' in 2011 - which was an art house film, with stunning cinematography. It made sense that they would try to push the film on Blu-ray.

For such a wide commercial release like this, I can't imagine they wouldn't put out a regular DVD. So you'll be fine. Smile

I suppose this earlier release might be to keep from losing profits to those pirates. Whatever the reason, I will pick up the 3D release on day one! I think I'll enjoy it much more in the privacy and comfort of my own home.

Am I the only one that dislikes this cover? It isn't natural, doesn't show all the main characters, doesn't show any scene-hints, no Gollum... I mean. what is that!!?? [In reply to] Can't Post

I personally think that that cover may be fan-faked and a photoshop job!
I've seen Thorin in that pose before, so have I seen that Bilbo pic from somewhere, same goes for Kili's position...

something -not- right with this cover pic!!

That one was a place holder from the studio. [In reply to] Can't Post

It's from months back (and even says "Artwork TBA" on the bottom). Blu-ray.com doesn't use fake covers. They use what the studio supplies.

I think it's great. [In reply to] Can't Post

It's a nice break from the generic movie posters that feel they have to shove every single character on the cover, while making sure a female character is nice and big whether she has a large role or not.

I like the simplicity of this one. It has a nice feel to it and doesn't feel the need to turn itself into a plot summary. And I love that Bilbo is the center of attention. They didn't cram Thorin and Kili front and center to make it more "marketable."Tongue

Agreed [In reply to] Can't Post

If this is the real art, I would he very happy. It's still comes in second place to the Japanese poster. It's one of my favorite posters so far.

And if it's photoshop, kudos to the person who did it.

...far better than the Sting version (it was okay for a teaser poster, but not for the real deal).
