A gruesome detail about Azog...
|

In the new article posted on the main page, regarding the Azog and Bolg figures, I noticed something about Azog that I had not noticed in the movies: his loincloth has on it what appear to be dwarf faces, as though he has skinned the faces off dwarves he has killed and used them to make it. Pretty gruesome if you ask me. Can anyone confirm if this detail was visible in the movie? I'm just new here so I don't know how to upload pictures, but here is the link to the image: http://www-images.theonering.org/.../01/1hobbittease.jpg

But I don't remember seeing it in the movie.

I noticed the faces as I was posting the story last night but don't recall seeing it that way in the movie. If it is that way I'll make sure to look for it when I see the movie but its a nice nasty cool detail for the character.

I think even the Yazneg figure has the same loincloth...

... which sort of makes sense as he was supposed to be Azog initially

That would make sense though. I do wish we'd get that figure here in the states but it was only put out in the EU.

Link I also realized that he's a pale Orc as far as the figure is concerned, since he was meant to be Azog I suppose, but of course in the films he's a regular dark Orc. I much rather prefer the Azog we got in the movie.

That is an interesting detail. I will be seeing the movie again rather soon and I will have to check and see if either character has that. I like it as a detail though as I think it adds some nastiness to the orcs. I do to. I think Yanzeg as a regular orc works but he isn't big enough IMO to be Azog or what I would expect Azog to be.

I never noticed it. But it would be something "The Defiler" would do. Yuck.
I am SMAUG! I kill when I wish! I am strong, strong, STRONG! My armor is like tenfold shields! My teeth like swords! My claws, spears! The shock of my tail, a thunderbolt! My wings, a hurricane! And my breath, death!

plain loincloth. They must have added the faces specifically for the figure in order to give it more effect - (unnecessary really, considering Azog is already an incredible presence as he is! )

I didn't notice that detail at all until someone pointed it out. I've looked at tons of images and watched video so I feel a little silly for having missed it.

Look again at the image you posted, in the middle of Azog's 'pants' there is a face visible! EDIT: Sorry, I misread your post. You did say there are faces.

Disney always has something for both adults and children in their movies. . . Rather gruesome, I suppose, but I love the tongue-in-cheek attention to detail!

Went again tonight and sure enough, there they were. You really had to have seen the picture here first, though, to know what to look for. It also requires that you concentrate and don't look at anything else during the fight at Moria, or during the Orc meeting on Weathertop. Creepy.

Yes, I had to really focus and look while pretty much ignoring everything else, but I saw the faces. Ick.
