What should we call it? Can't Post

We have the Lord of the Rings Trilogy and The Hobbit Trilogy, but will/should we have a name for all 6 films?

For example, the Twilight Saga, Star Wars Saga, Harry Potter, etc.

It would make sense for it to be something like Middle Earth Saga or something similar.

Thoughts?

The Chronicles of The Third Age

If The Silmarillion ever gets made we can then call it The Chronicles of Middle-Earth (Or the Chronicles of Arda if you prefer)

"THESE are Rhosgobel Rabbits! I'd like to see them try...."

Lets change it up [In reply to] Can't Post

and put something with "Tolkien" in there...ME Saga sounds silly for some reason. Maybe "The Complete Set of Middle Earth" or something.

I would have loved something like ... [In reply to] Can't Post

'The Saga of the Jewel and the Ring'. Tolkien referred to this Saga (with a plural "jewels" for the entire Silmarillion, Hobbit and Rings).

However, in this case - "Jewel" might stand for the Arkenstone maybe ... ?

I don't know, seems like such a fascinating title for me Laugh

I think the Middle-Earth saga is the title best suited for all six films Smile

If the 6 films aren't packaged in a case that looks like the red book of the westmarch, I have no faith in humanity.

I like Chronicles of the Third Age a lot though.

The Middle Earth Legendarium?

Just a go. I really like the names you all have already come up with.

At the moment [In reply to] Can't Post

I'd prefer they remain distinct in people's minds. I just think the LOTR trilogy is a class apart from what we've seen of The Hobbit thus far. Much like a Star Wars fan, I would want people to be able separate the two trilogies as the later one does the earlier one no favours imo.

But I do I really hope films 2 and 3 make me eat my words.

How about: The Red Book of Westmarch: Chronicles of the Third Age of Middle-earth.

A little long though.

There it is: dwarves are not heroes, but calculating folk with a great idea of the value of money; some are tricky and treacherous and pretty bad lots; some are not, but are decent enough people like Thorin and Company, if you don't expect too much.

I have my problems with the film... [In reply to] Can't Post

And they are many. However, I still think it's in a league above Star Wars. Those prequels undermine the original story soooo badly, I don't think a prequel trilogy could ever be given a worse treatment than that.

I would still put The Hobbit proudly next to my LOTR Blu-Rays.

I knew it was a risky, [In reply to] Can't Post

almost certainly unfair comparison to make.

I definitely don't mean to say an AUJ is anything like the Star Wars prequels... it's more a case of just wanting my favourite films of all time to just, well, remain as they are. The Hobbit can exist as The Hobbit and that's swell... but let the LOTR films made a decade ago stand alone. Mad

Anyway, it's a stupid thing for me to get upset about, really. It's not like they're merging films or editing the originals are anything.

Obviously, you're more than entitled to your opinion, but I happen to completely disagree. Angelic

The Star Wars prequels are an integral part of the series to me, and I can't imagine the story without them. On the other hand, I'm not too keen on putting AUJ next to my LOTR movies. (Figuratively, of course. I don't actually have a problem setting two physical objects next to each other. I just mean I don't think they're in the same league.) DoS & TABA I think have great potential still, and should greatly benefit from the extra time since the three-film split to refine their structure and pacing.

There's a sad sort of clanging from the clock in the hall and the bells in the steeple, too.
And up in the nursery an absurd little bird is popping out to say coo-coo (coo-coo, coo-coo).
