pleasure derived by viewing with children

When LOTR came to the cinema only the eldest of the then 2 children we had was old enough to appreciate it but by the time the trilogy was done and all on DVD I remember watching them get drawn in to the story, much more than the harry potter films and it was great to see the magic of Tolkien work on them as it had on me.now, viewing the hobbit with all 4 of them is fantastic again, the eldest is 18 the youngest 8,with the two younger ones having read the hobbit from the school library last year and were almost ready to pop waiting for the movies release.the fantastic thing is this, they understand the changes and additions and love the movies knowing that the books will always be there and are the source material but also appreciating and understanding enough to ask questions and OK in the books for themselves.what I'm saying is they are not viewing things through slightly cynical tolkienite goggles as maybe some do and they can love both mediums for what they are.I just love watching their faces as they take it all in,gasping and jumping, clapping and laughing.surely its a good thing that children can find a way in to middle earth through the films and discover the wider history etc as they get older..?Smile
