An "interesting" observation Can't Post

Not sure if anyone has posted this before. Did any of you guys notice that the rock on which the eagles drop the company, is shockingly similar to a bear (when Gandalf gets off). Hmm, looks like Beorn is right around the corner.

Sam: Trust a Brandybuck and a Took.
Merry: What? That was just a detour, a shortcut.
Sam: Shortcut to what?
Pippin: Mushrooms!

Yep [In reply to] Can't Post

I love the design. It's subtle enough that anyone not looking for it won't see it, but for those of us who know about Beorn, it's a great little nod.

There's a sad sort of clanging from the clock in the hall and the bells in the steeple, too.
And up in the nursery an absurd little bird is popping out to say coo-coo (coo-coo, coo-coo).

Happiness: money matters, but less than we think and not in the way that we think. Family is important and so are friends, while envy is toxic -- and so is excessive thinking. Beaches are optional. Trust is not. Neither is gratitude. - The Geography of Bliss by Eric Weiner as summarized by Lily Fairbairn. And a bit of the Hobbit reading thrown in never hurts. - NottaSackville

the Carrock [In reply to] Can't Post

...is the name of the Rock.
It's Beorn country. Hence the roaring bear.

The terrific WETA book on their design process for the film has a few pages on it. (the Hobbit Chronicles).

Go outside and play...

Neat detail, isn't it? [In reply to] Can't Post

Which is surely missed by anyone not familiar with the books!

Did you see that the Carrock has ears, too? On top there are two mounds of rock, and I just realized on my last viewing that those are clearly the ears of the bear!
