Very insightful and a good read, which certainly does well in terms of persuading me to agree with your point. However, I personally love the whole fact that nobody truly knows who Tom Bombadil is...if a straight answer had been revealed by Tolkien it may have (for me) detracted from his seemingly limitless power (over his own turf anyway). But then that depends how you define power I suppose...e.g. With the Wizards it's quite a surprise to learn just how powerful they actually are, provided you read The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings before The Silmarillion or Unfinished Tales.
