Golden Globes Can't Post

Did anybody watch it? What did you think of the nominees/wins? Did you like Tina Fey and Amy Poehler as the hosts? Do you have a favorite moment?

It was solid overall. [In reply to] Can't Post

I thought the hosts were good for the most part, they got quite a few laughs from me,especially jabs at Cameron,HFPA and Franco co-hosting Oscars with Hathaway ;) The problem is that they were not on stage for very long, but it was the same with Gervais last year, they probably want to speed up the show and obviously can't cut commercial breaks.Categories presenters had mostly lackluster jokes written for them,Baron Cohen being the exception(Russell Crowe singing,I didn't think it was that bad,but I still laughed pretty hard) and the comedic highlight - a little overplayed ,but very funny nonetheless sketch by Ferrell and Wiig.

Awkward moments - Bill Clinton presenting on stage for reasons unknown, teleprompter malfunctioning ,pointless HFPA president appearance.Jodie Foster speech was just too convoluted and chaotic, and millions of years too long, but this is De Mille award,so let her have her shine.

Great speeches by Adele(the only emotional one that i felt was honest and not prepared+ the accent :) and Jennifer Lawrence("I beat Meryl" and never old reference to Harvey Weinstein's omnipotence in Hollywood,I love that kind of dry humor )

The awards were pretty much predetermined, although Django Unchained for supporting actor and especially screenplay were big upsets.
Homeland is good, but not nearly as good as the award recognition suggests,so many plot-holes and conventional thriller cliches. But i guess I'm happy for Damian Lewis.

My favourite part of the show would definitely be every Emily Blunt closeup :P
Seriously though it will have to be Ben Affleck getting the Director after Oscar snub and Argo winning best picture was nice too, although i haven't seen all of the films, but I really thought Argo was great combining thriller with comedy and make it work ,which is extremely difficult.Definitely one of the best films of the year.

I barely watched them [In reply to] Can't Post

There were a few nice moments of what I did see. It went pretty much the way I expected, especially the TV awards.

It's always strange to me that some people seem to get a couple of minutes to thank who they want, while others get less. (I don't mean Jodie -- boy that was a ramble)

I think the number and type of categories makes this a difficult awards show to segment. It's also an awards show where the voting is going to be skewed more than being voted an award by your peers. (Academy) So, while it's a popularity contest, its a bit different on how those votes are garnered.

Amy Poehler and Tiny Fey are fine.

I thought Daniel Day Lewis was gracious without seeming forced.

Of course I was sad that the Hobbit got nothing, not even a nom, but I didn't expect anything.

I watched snippets on YouTube. [In reply to] Can't Post

I thought the presenters' opening monologue was superb.

Celebrimbor: "Pretty rings..."
Dwarves: "Pretty rings..."
Men: "Pretty rings..."
Sauron: "Mine's better."

"Ah, how ironic, the addictive qualities of Sauronís master weapon led to its own destruction. Which just goes to show, kids - if you want two small and noble souls to succeed on a mission of dire importance... send an evil-minded beggar with them too." - Gandalf's Diaries, final par, by Ufthak.

I watched the entire show... [In reply to] Can't Post

I though Tina and Amy were good. I prefer Ricky Gervais as host, but that is just my sense of humour. I liked their 'bits' where they added fake names to the nominees in some categories, only to have Tina or Amy in costume in the audience. Will Ferrell and the other SNL cast member (I have no idea who she is!) was also good. I really prefer the Golden Globes nowadays to the Oscars. Jodie Foster's speech was interesting...I was miffed they didn't show her ex-partner when Foster gave her credit for all the help?? She showed their two boys...again. Weird. Anyway, I liked the show, thought it was quite good. Even when it appeared that Paul Rudd's prompter wasn't working.

What's the matter, James? No glib remark? No pithy comeback?"
