The Moth Can't Post

Since Radagast and the eagles are appearing in The Hobbit films there has been some discussion regarding "The Moth" over in The Hobbit movie thread.

The other day I was just googling the Moth and on several of the wiki pages, it says there is an alleged/speculated appearance of the Moth during The Two Towers (during Helm's Deep).

Does anyone know where these rumours came from, and whether they can be substantiated? Has anyone else heard of this, and seen it? I have looked in gramma's list of geeky observations but nothing is said there. I'm just interested whether this is an actual observation, or fan speculation.

Feel free to use this thread to speculate about the moth itself Wink

Thanks!

I never Did [In reply to] Can't Post

When would the sighting had taken place and it likely is not the same moth as the one at Orthanac . Unless Rags changes into animals. I mean i recall no Moth when Gandalf returns in that side charge and you couldn't see a Moth at night.

I don't know [In reply to] Can't Post

All the information I can find says sometime during Helm's Deep - I assume it's when Gandalf arrives.

I'm sure it's not obvious, otherwise we would all know - it's probably a smudge in the sky that fans have speculated being the moth

Yes indeed! [In reply to] Can't Post

I brought this up in the Hobbit forum, I do believe. I am very curious as to whether the moth symbolism will be used again to signal the coming of the Eagles, or nature, or what have you. It's supposed to be a real shock when it happens in Return of the King because there was only one implementation in the movies prior (unless you could somehow know that it was in Two Towers.... if it is) but it instantly springs to mind because of the Nature's Reclamation theme playing behind it. I hope the reference is subtle rather than an actual ushering in so that suspense can be preserved.
