If someone had told you a couple of years ago that in the future [In reply to] Can't Post

you'd feature dwarves - not one, but three - in an Estrogen Island thread, wouldn't you have thought that they had gotten into the Old Gaffer's home brew?! Laugh

Thanks, Kel! Actually, I've been going on about Thorin, but I've been neglecting the adorable Kili. He's pretty droolworthy in his own right; I wouldn't mind getting to play with *his* bow a bit, if you get my drift...Cool Thorin's sort of on another plane altogether, but Kili's still pretty easy on the eye.

I'll have to save my contribution for when I've got more time, but thanks for getting this going!

You can say that again! [In reply to] Can't Post

Kudos to PJ and company for realizing that not every dwarf has to be buried in prosthetics. Although I bet John Rhys-Davies is wishing this realization had come upon them before he had so much trouble with his!

I do not find him in the least attractive, and wouldn't look at him twice, out of his Thorin character.

Who would have thought, a few years ago [In reply to] Can't Post

that we'd be seeing dwarf hotness on Eostrogen Island? Sheesh... life is full of surprises. I still think Kili is much too pretty to be a real dwarf, but I admire his skill with the bow, most certainly!

I think I addressed this to some extent awhile back [In reply to] Can't Post

I don't think it's so much a case of attractiveness as 'attracted to' and people are 'attracted to' other people for lots of reasons.

I don't know Richard but the characters he portrays, and the way he portrays him, presents a type of personality I'm attracted to. It really isn't about looks.

And I'm a straight woman who's been attracted to a number of females. I don't see it as any different from many of the males I've been attracted to. It isn't really about sex. It's about something else that is part looks and part personality and part who knows what! It produces a 'zing' that I think is easy to equate with sexual attraction but I'm not sure it's always about that.

RA addressed this in an interview [In reply to] Can't Post

Talking about his fans, he kept coming back to the fact that they are reacting to the characters he plays, not him personally. I can see this; I had little exposure to his work prior to his casting, and subsequently saw Captain America. Nothing about his character in that movie made me go "whoa." I had also seen episodes of Robin Hood and didn't even register it was the same guy. But then I saw North and South, and look out--quivering wreck for days. Then came MI5 and more quiveriing (plus suspense!). Thorin has that same "quiver factor." It's the character as played by him that I am reacting to.

RA seems like a very nice, unassuming fellow, and I am sure I would find home lovely and handsome if I were fortunate enough to meet him. But if he's in a cravat, or sporting a full mane of dwarf hair, all while looking conflicted (in that special way he tilts his head down so he is looking up in a dark, smoldering manner), then all bets are off.

I would assume he does not do this while shopping at Sainsbury's.

It's comments like that [In reply to] Can't Post

(RA's comments, not yours), that make me admire him as a person. I think he's got a good head on his shoulders, takes his work seriously, and practices humility. This isn't someone caught up in the stardom as an ego trip about himself.

So, I can be attracted to his characters but I admire the actor.

Plus, one overriding feeling I had to quite a few of the LOTR actors was gratefulness that they took it seriously ... it meant so much to so many of us and I think they could have sniggered at the 'fans'. But they never did. (and there's a part of me that wondered if this quality was lacking in a few people who were 'attached' to LOTR and then 'not attached.)

I get the feeling that Richard and Martin take it seriously and I'm grateful.

I have to really watch it with my phone but my iPad errors are usually just me touching the wrong keys. I have the keyboard if I'm feeling wordy but usually can't be bothered to get up & get it out. Nothing better than surfing the web laying down in bed or on the couch in front of the wood stove!
