What have you been listening to ? Can't Post

Happy New Year everyone ! I hope you all had a great holiday season, and aren't sick ( like most of the people I know )

I have been listening to a lot of good music lately, but The Hobbit soundtrack is reigning supreme in the rotation . I picked up the special edition for the extended versions of several tracks on the regular soundtrack, and the exclusive tracks....

The Trollshaws
A Very Respectable Hobbit
Erebor
The Dwarf Lords
The Edge of the Wild

When I first saw the film, I thought there might have been a heavy leaning on the 'Misty Mountain' melody, but now that i've seen it 5 times, I think it works well everytime it's used, and has become tatooed on my brain Laugh

Some highlights of the soundtrack to my ears are....

My Dear Frodo - Coming in at just over 8 minutes, this tune covers the prologue when Bilbo is telling the story to Frodo in Bag End. Quite a few different moods are contained in the song, even some music that should sound familiar to most of us. All of these various moods are blended together seamlessly by Mr. Shore, and make for an excellent start to the musical proceedings.

Crack The Plates - I can't get this song out of my mind !

Misty Mountain Song - Words cannot describe how much I love this. I get goose bumps every time I hear it and had to employ great restraint from singing along in the theater.

The Adventure Begins - Great duality in only a little over two minutes length. This music is heard when Bilbo is coming to the conclusion that he would forever regret not going on an adventure as he wanders the suddenly quiet, dwarf free Bag End. Pensive, haunting notes give way to sheer joy as Bilbo flees down the hill to join the company.

The World Is Ahead - This is the first time we hear the 'Misty Mountain' melody as a recurring theme in the film.

Song Of The Lonely Mountain - I think Neil Finn did a lovely job with this. It was this song that made me stay through the credits ( much to my friends dismay....)

Radagast The Brown - Starting with some lovely choral work, the song morphs into quite a few directions, mirroring the frantic Radagast perfectly. Brilliant stuff here, and one of my favorite pieces on the soundtrack.

I absolutely adore the entire effort by Mr. Shore, and look forward to what he will bring to the second picture. Unfortunately, most of the songs aren't linked to youtube yet ( or they are blocked ?)

I'd love to hear y'all's opinion on the music for The Hobbit. Did you buy the soundtrack ?
