Lots of interviews!: Can't Post

Don't know if they've been posted here yet, but saw them on the (brilliant) Heirs of Durin (thorinoakenshield.net) (thanks!)

19th Dec: Digital Spy; RichardA, AidanT + JamesN Dwarf History, expansion and upcoming films

22nd Dec: Moviefone; MartinF AndyS + PJ

24th Dec: RA (with interesting hints about Kili in next films towards end)
Allocine; MF, RA and AS
BadTaste.it interviews: CateB , AS , MF , RA , JN + AT
Also, very cool 'How well do they know Tolkien' interview. (RA triumphs!)

PS. Woooo! Tol Eressea here I am ;)

Something I Do Not Like [In reply to] Can't Post

- is where Armitage - who begins by laying out his credentials as one who's known TH and LotR from childhood, and who has skimmed Silm - says that the enmity between Dwarves and Elves involves the Nauglamir - something from Tolkien - and also from Thranduil turning his back on the dwarves at the sack of Erebor - which is not from Tolkien at all. Thus mixing up what is JRR and what is pJ. This will not do.

Well done Armitage [In reply to] Can't Post

Well technically Thranduil never helped the Dwarves of Erebor so that part is true, he just never came and witnessed the destruction and then left. Then again Tolkien never said that he didn't witness the destruction from afar or had scouts check out a major calamity happening at Mirkwood's footsteps.

I give props to Armitage knowing the Nauglamir, that is a feat in itself. No reason to be concerned or outraged by the conflation between Tolkien and PJ. Like it or not the film has established its own canon. He or anyone else may freely borrow from the film to create points of reference.

True [In reply to] Can't Post

And let's not forget he is actually promoting the film, so referring to film canon is only natural in that context.

I too am impressed that he even knows of the Nauglamir so he definitely gets props from me as well.

I think the more the actors know about the characters and cultures can only enhance how they approach their parts.

I'm pretty sure he'd know that one is Tolkien and the other is PJ geordie :P ... [In reply to] Can't Post

then again, he doesn't actually distinguish them in that interview... so hmmm maybe you're right. He was indeed mixing them :s. Oh well. He knows tonnes more than some of the other cast members *cough* Martin Freeman *cough*... so don't put him down -too- harshly Wink

Just noticed Ring in MF pic [In reply to] Can't Post

Beorn: I went to this link you posted, and the photo of Bilbo in the pile of gold (which I've seen a lot) was larger than I had seen before. I noticed that he has the Ring on his middle finger of his left hand. Has anyone else noticed this before, and am I just late to the game? Does this mean that in this still he is actually supposed to be invisible, and is looking at Smaug in terror (but can't be seen by same)?

Some interesting tidbits [In reply to] Can't Post

No more Gollum, apparently (though I have my doubts).

Galadriel is in 2 of the 3 films as of now. Christopher Lee also said that Saruman features in the first two films. So maybe the White Council subplot is resolved in The Desolation of Smaug?

Since I love Cate's Galadriel, I hope she appears in all 3. If they've made all this effort to connect the 6 films together, they might as well have Gandalf, Elrond, Galadriel and Saruman appear in all 6 films.

I wouldn't be so sure [In reply to] Can't Post

It makes no sense (to me anyway) to end the secondary storyline 2/3 of the way through the trilogy. I just cannot see it happening. I've said before, I think that a so-called "battle" of Dol Guldor might happen in DoS, but I don't think that'll be the end of the story. I see the climax of the DG story to happen sometime in Film 3.

All 6 films [In reply to] Can't Post

I agree, at this point, it makes no sense to drop Elrond, Galadriel, and Saruman during film 3. I'm 48% sure that they'll all be in TABA in some capacity.
