Sound quality - Dwarven dialects and Gollum

Most of the dwarves have a English / UK / Scottish / Irish accent....while Dwalin and Bifur have more of a Russian accent. Well, Bifur just mumbles and you can't decipher it but it is foreign. The Riddles in the Dark scene is a great part of AUJ but, it is difficult to understand some of the riddles that Gollum is saying due to speed and vocal quality. If you are not familiar with the riddles from the book you miss out on 50% of the riddles based on viewer comments.

I don't have a problem with any of the accents. Do people really mis-understand the Riddles? As for Bifur - he speaks in Khuzdul. And Dwalin is supposed to be Scottish too.

Gollum garbles the words and speaks them quickly so some people have no idea what he said. Dwalin sure sounded like he had a slavic accent in one scene in Bilbo's home.

again....otherwise, I agree his normal accent was apparent. I was thinking maybe they were experimenting with accents early on.

where i had no idea what Gollum was saying. The same was true with TTT and RotK. It's not a big deal, though-- i see these films so many times that it's really only a factor the first or second time. And i've never had a problem with any of the other characters.

I'm not even an English native speaker and I have no problem with Gollum! He speaks rather clearly to be "destroying" his throat like that! Many vocalists in death metal bands could learn a thing or two from Andy
Vocalist in the semi-progressive metal band Arctic Eclipse

I agree about the Khuzdul... it was way too muffled for me.. battle-cries were inaudible etc. :( //

and I'm not British (well, a lot of my ancestry is, but not for oh, about 200 years ).
" Well well!", said a voice. "Just look! Bilbo the hobbit on a pony, my dear! Isn't it delicious!" "Most astonishing wonderful!"

However my mom and dad didn't catch all of what Gollum said, but I understood him completely. I actually loved the British/Scottish/Irish accents. That's one of the things I liked about the film adaptation, that they used British/Irish/Scottish actors. I just thought they fit so well.

I loved hearing them use "laddy". It made it feel more...family. ^_^ But I did have trouble understanding some of the words of the riddles when I first watched it. But it wasn't just Gollum, it was Bilbo too. On the second viewing, I was able to understand more. But it was never because of the accents. I watch a LOT of British shows, so I have no problem understanding what is being said. And it was only the riddles. I don't know why, but there is it.
