Geeky Observation Thread. Can't Post

I thought it might be fun to have a thread where we post our little geeky observations. I'll start:

When Bilbo asks Gandalf how many wizards there are, Gandalf says something to the effect of:

"...and two blue wizards...but I have quite forgotten their names..."

I thought this line, and the amusing delivery of it, was a fun little poke at the fact that the names can't be used because they are only mentioned in texts which PJ and co. do not have the license for.

* crunch *

Geeky or continuity with LOTR? [In reply to] Can't Post

Gollum drags orc off to his island; sings a variation of the fish-bashing-on-a-rock song from the Forbidden Pool; suddenly Bilbo's sword stops glowing blue.

In fact this is no more stupid than Sam making taters, since the potato originated in South America, smae as the Tomatoes that Denethor bursts...

Why do you think there's no lemon trees [In reply to] Can't Post

in Hobbiton? They grow in Southern Europe, so why not in Middle-Earth? They might have greenhouses as well.

For the egg riddle, in the book Gollum remembers teaching his grandmother to suck - "Eggses!", but in the film he says something like, " my granny taught me to suck - Eggses!"

Here's some observations... [In reply to] Can't Post

I thought I saw some dwarf women. Maybe?

The ponies got lost far too early.

Balin wasn't on the lookout for Bilbo and orcs after escaping Goblin town. Bilbo didn't come up with a cool fib saying how he'd gotten out. Frown

Oh, forgot, Bilbo trying to leave in the cave in the mountains. Shocked Tongue

I'd call some of my observation geeky. Unsure For they were in the book you had to read. Unsure

How could the scriptwriters have messed that up? By inverting it they've removed Tolkien's clever use of language and idiom... <throws hands up in despair> Frown

Gandalf's light-dimming anger [In reply to] Can't Post

On the shot when Gandalf becomes angry at dinner because the dwarves are questioning Bilbo's uses -- did anyone else find the effects a bit "off". They added a sudden and rather jarring reverb/echo to Gandalf's voice, and the lights very dramatically shifted. It's hard to describe -- but the effects looked a little rough in that instant.

The Numénorians went everywhere and brought plants from everywhere they went. You don't mind the tobacco (American), potatoes (American) or tomatoes (American), but you mind lemon?

When Bilbo asks Gandalf about the Wizards .... [In reply to] Can't Post

Just wondering when Gandalf explains the Blue Wizards saying he doesn't remember their names - Alatar and Pallando. Hasn't Peter Jackson got the rights to use their names hence Gandalf forgetting?

I do not want what it is not mine.... I only want what comes from within....
