     Pacing, padding, length etc are all red herrings and it is the lack of narrative thrust which is the issue, . [In reply to]  

by which I mean I think Jackson should have been a good deal bolder in departing from the text.

But after seeing it I feel like I "get it" now... minus the tunnel-slides and a few other OTT things I really loved it. Smile
