Advice for opening night? (i.e. How long before should I get there?) Can't Post

Hey all,
I haven't ever done opening night for a film of this magnitude and need some advice. For a group of five hellbent on seeing the film seated together, how long before midnight should we (or one of us, at least) show?
I'll be seeing it in NYC at the RPX theater at 42nd (no line party from what I could see).

And of course... [In reply to] Can't Post

...we've bought all the tickets in advance. The only concern is getting solid seats.

It's different from place to place but... [In reply to] Can't Post

The theatre I go to is the biggest in the Cleveland area. It has even hosted a couple red carpet premieres. It sounds ridiculous to a lot of people, but 8 is usually the time to get there. Even then, you're not going to be first in line by any means, especially in NYC.

I've gone at 8 for several big premieres (The Dark Knight, Indiana Jones 4, Harry Potter films). It usually serves me well and puts me in the front portion of the line, and you can practically pick any seat you want.

aha. [In reply to] Can't Post

Thanks a lot dude. I'm fine without being first in line; we just want to sit together in proper seats. This jives well with my current plan, so I'll be sticking to it, unless others chime in who say differently.

I saw RotK at a midnight showing, [In reply to] Can't Post

and i got there six hours early, but no one was there yet, so i sat in a coffee shop close to the theater and read for around 3 hours until people started showing up. So i stood in line about 2 1/2 hours and was about 5th in line. But the theater i saw it in was pretty laid back and didn't have any line parties or people dressing up, so i don't know how accurate that would be for you.

My son and I arrived at 11 for the midnight showing [In reply to] Can't Post

The theater was pretty full, but we got decent seats. It was in Redwood City, CA.
