question about the white council sneak peak scene (non-spoiler)

A member posted a clip from the white council scene. So Elrond states there has been a 400 hundred year peace, what war took place before the 400 hundred year peace? I know Sauron had been defeated 2,000 years prior.

is the alliance between Rohan and Gondor in TA 2510, when the Easterlings attacked Rhovanian (later Wilderland). Gondor and Rohan's alliance drove the Easterlings out of Wilderland.
Frito groaned. "I wish I had never been born," he said. "Do not say that, dear Frito," cried Orlon. "It was a happy minute for us all when you were born."

Elrond was probably confused. When you're 6500 years old what's a few hundred years...

Condensing Tolkien's timelines in commonplace in Jackson's film versions

For example, the time period between Bilbo's party and Gandalf's realization of the Ring's history is condensed into a short period when in fact they're seperated by about 17 years.
"Radagast is, of course, a worthy wizard, a master of shapes and changes of hue, and he has much lore of herbs and beasts, and birds are especially his friends."-Gandalf, The Lord of the Rings.

and i would assume Saruman's badgering of Gandalf's true tales of the trolls and goblins coming back into the world is because he wants to delay striking the Necromancer until he finds the ring for himself?

I think that was Tolkien's explanation, unless I'm mis-remembering...

Though maybe that piece of info is from Unfinished Tales rather than the LOTR appendices? If they follow Tolkien, Saruman was a good man (well, wizard) at the time of the last White Council meetings but the Ring was definitely on his mind.

saruman suspected the ring was lost at the gladden fields, as well as there was high orc activity there. although this was before saruman acquired his orcs so i'm not really sure how he hoped to find it....if anything removing the necromancer would give him the opportunity to search for it???

The watchful peace lasted 400 years, but it wasn't 400 years before The Hobbit timeframe

It lasted from 2063 when Gandalf first went to Dol Guldur and Sauron retreated from him and hid in relative silence for several centuries, until just about the time when Deagol and Sméagol find The Ring. It would have been more impressive and plausible for Elrond to have simply said "for 900 years we have had peace, a watchful peace" which would still have been as accurate ( any dark deeds commited after 2063 mainly happened IN the 400 years the film is claiming, NOT in the 500 years before that, and such monumental victories for evil as The Moria Balrog arising and exiling the Dwarves from Khazad-Dum and The Nazgul taking Minas Ithil happened more than two centuries before The Watchful Peace began), and would at least have included the actual timespan of The Watchful Peace.
"Hear me, hounds of Sauron, Gandalf is here! Fly if you value your foul skins, I will shrivel you from tail to snout if you step within this circle!" "Do not be to eager to deal out death in judgement. Even the very wise cannot see all ends."
