Thanks! [In reply to] Can't Post

I've followed this site since the lead-up to Fellowship of the Ring. I can still clearly remember the final weeks before the release, and all the excitement!

I post regularly on a couple other forums (fantasy-related), but have usually just used this site for the news updates. Joining the forums was long overdue! :)

I look forward to hearing everyone's reviews, 7 days from now!

Up to 74% on Rotten Tomatoes [In reply to] Can't Post

This reviewer gives the film 7 out of 10 (meaning that Rotten Tomatoes doesn't have much choice as to how to classify it). In my opinion, some of the supposedly "rotten" reviews convey an opinion of the film at least as good as this one.

Sounds like she didn't even watch the film. [In reply to] Can't Post

The first paragraph is a poorly disguised copy of the official studio blurb that describes the film. The rest of the "review" talks about 48fps, but in a way that just regurgitates what other reviews have said.

Then at the end, she just calls the movie "tedious" without giving any example whatsoever to support that statement.

Bad enough having to write about all these blasted films without the added chore of being required to watch them.

Here's a much better one [In reply to] Can't Post

There do seem to be more thoughtful reviews coming through now and I have also seen a couple of people say they enjoyed the film more second time round - including both the guys who gave it the worst reviews on RT, Jordan Hoffman and James Rocchi, https://twitter.com/jamesrocchi

Once again a negative review that tells me... [In reply to] Can't Post

...that I'm going to love the movie. Poor critic. Had to sit through the dwarf songs.

Can't wait. Cool

Slant likes it! [In reply to] Can't Post

...and Gonzalez is no push-over!

this is a very good review, very well-written and he really seems to "get it," in terms of what the movie's going for. his only major gripe seems to be the HFR, not sure if he let that affect his score or not (3 out of 4), as it was pretty much just positive remarks after that.

I doubt Ebert will like the film [In reply to] Can't Post

He expressed doubt regarding the decision to make the Hobbit into 2 films... I can only imagine his reaction upon hearing it was being stretched into three films. I'm sure he saw the film before hurting himself. I'm sure he'll be able to write the review from his bed, if he hasn't written it already.

Very enthusiastic review [In reply to] Can't Post

This one from Movieweb has just been added. The only complaint, the same as lots of others, is that the film is too long.

What has happened to critics in the last 10 years? [In reply to] Can't Post

It seems like none of them can handle a 3 hour movie anymore.

If PJ and WB take these reviews seriously and make TDOS and TABA shorter films I will be so angry

*sigh* [In reply to] Can't Post

I know it's not like PJ didn't know 48fps was going to be divisive. But I really wish he'd screened the film for critics in 24fps. It's clear that it's influencing a lot of reviews in a negative way. Frown It seems like the reviewer otherwise had great things to say about the movie, only taking issue with the length.

Now... [In reply to] Can't Post

I was "afraid" of the guardian's verdict... but this sounds pretty positive, especially for fans.

The reviewer also comments on acting and the drama that comes through at some points... much more balanced than the fps-bash-reviews copied from other reviews.

Since this is 3/5 but certainly generally positive I hope it will be a fresh on RT....

here is a new (german) review

http://translate.google.de/...me%2Fnews_100608.php

he went to the world premiere in wellington

it's pretty much a positive review ( I think 4 or 4.5 out of 5 stars), the only thing that he didn't like was the CGI in combination with 3D HFR, as it looks kinda fake.

I was dreading Peter Bradshaw's review [In reply to] Can't Post

since he only gave FotR and TTT three stars and RotK got four. I agree that the HFR seems to distract critics from the main thrust of the film but he does say some nice things and, at least for him, it is equal to PJ's first two LotR attempts.

And yes, I am completely convinced that if all the reviewers saw 24fps, I'm pretty sure the Tomatometer would be reading 90+
