For those who aren't American college football fans, I won't bother trying to explain it in detail. In short, there is a state with two major teams in it with a very heated rivalry that has won the last two championships. It got so bad that a fan from one of the schools poisoned some ancient, revered trees on the campus of the other school. The school whose trees were poisoned had a terrible season this year and have fired their coach.
The blog took all of that as an opportunity to riff on the Cleansing of Isengard, and the posters then delighted in a long thread of Tolkien puns.
Might be a good respite from all of these critic reviews.
