Worried about reception. Can't Post

Quote
A Turkish film critic who's living in the USA said on Twitter, press screenings were held in NY and LA for The Hobbit and he says de doesn't hear good things.

Well of course [In reply to] Can't Post

If everyone were singing the movie's praise in each and every detail, I'd be much more suspicious.

And it's not like the critics really love the LotR movies either. More like some of them are willing to give it more credit than some others.

But every word you say today
Gets twisted 'round some other way
And they'll hurt you if they think you've lied

Should our mood [In reply to] Can't Post

rise and fall with every critic that surfaces? I think it is expected some level of nagativity. Some want a Lotr 2, others just expect a children's Hobbit, others will not appreciate 48 fps 3D etc...

um... [In reply to] Can't Post

After press screenings the press don't all look at each other and discuss what they think.

I wouldn't worry.

Yes, are people to allow someone else to decide their opinion [In reply to] Can't Post

on the movie?

Why bother to watch it then.

All the signed cares about:

1. I like the movie

2. A reasonable amount of the fandom is reasonably satisfied with it

3. The people who invested so much of their time, energy, passion and money to it get their due reward

It's not about everyone loving it. [In reply to] Can't Post

No movie is loved by everyone (contrary to what you said, LOTR came pretty close).

But it sounds like a lot of people are having problems with the movie and that is worrisome (if it turns out to be true).

One unenthusiastic review... [In reply to] Can't Post

https://twitter.com/thehighsign

Liked LOTR a lot apparently, but found The Hobbit 'intense' (whatever that means) and overly long. Plus the HFR looked 'bizarrely crappy'. Nice to see the skilled vocabulary of the modern reviewer.

The length comments don't worry me. It shouldn't really bother the average fan, since I doubt many will find the movie too long.

It's not worrisome [In reply to] Can't Post

if you decide to make up your own mind about the movie.

Also I may point out that there's not even a link that I can see to this Turkish person who's saying anything. There's no specifics at all.

I'm having difficulty with the conclusions you're jumping to [In reply to] Can't Post

So far, the buzz has been positive, until you posted this. Now suddenly you're worried.

So what's this ratio you're going by, because it seems to me you're totally disregarding the positive we've been hearing.

But who are the "lot of people" [In reply to] Can't Post

Dana Stevens is the first one to say something negative that is sourced from a person.

Everyone else has been incredibly positive. Also her criticism of "cheap looking" 48 fps is lame.

They also mentioned in their tweets that they had to sit through two movies [In reply to] Can't Post

Being tired and being discombobulated with the hfr may have lent to the being irritated with the length. It's happened to me before when I watched King Kong for the first time and I was really tired.

Don't know, critics? [In reply to] Can't Post

Wouldn't you agree that "i'm not hearing good things about it" suggests that there is a sizable amount of negativity coming out of the screenings? Or do you believe he happens to hear just the few negative ones and everyone else is loving it? What is more likely?

Posts that he thinks some other guy on twitter thinks that he is not hearing good things from some unnamed critics.

Well that seems pretty watertight to me!

Have we at least tried to find the tweet?

No I wouldn't agree [In reply to] Can't Post

considering we don't know who the turkish person is, who they speak to and what they know. We've heard positive reviews so far and even one positive review posted here. So I'm not picking up an overwhelmingly negative vibe - yet.

I'm not saying it can't happen, but I think we have very little to go on here.
