Smaug - with his amusing destruction, the slapstick Battle of Azanulbizar, the Misty Mountains song kicking up a gear into a conga, the Monty Pythonesque battle with the trolls complete with Gandalf's punch line, the always riotous antics of the Nazgul synchronised clowning team, Sauron's new wacky-warehouse den and giant spider pranksters, the ever so cute wargs (just wait for them to say "swasages"), the laugh-out-loud double entendres of the stone giants, the custard pie flinging army of goblins, Elrond mooning, the high-kicking musical White Council sing-a-long, the tickle-you-till-you-squeal combo of burning alive, warg fur and goblin swords and of course the big finale of the Carrock in the shape of a 500ft high banana skin. The Goblin King flushing his toilet to Gandalf shouting "You!!... Shall not!... PASS!"
-Tim came by. Tim! If you had heard only a quarter of what I have heard about him, and I have only heard very little of all there is to hear, you would be prepared for any sort of remarkable tale.

There is humour in Fellowship of the Ring

After a few years since the last viewing, I rewatched The Fellowship of the Ring along with another 1500 people recently and there were plenty of moments when we all chuckled in that movie. I think the first Hobbit movie will be the same, perhaps retaining a little more humour throughout even though it too will get darker. I had actually forgotten how much humour there was in the fellowship and I enjoyed it.

This is not a comedy. The soundtrack pretty much proves that. Will there be PJ-humor? Sure. But it's an epic with some lighter moments thrown in, not a comedy with some darker moments.

But it also has super intense moments. There's no joking around when poop hits the fan. Now compare that to Hobbit, goblin king dropping on dwarves, Bilbo reacting funnily to life threatening situations, trailers and posters that are much lighter in tone etc. Again, i hope my worries are for nothing.

But please take our word (those of us who have listened to the soundtrack) that this will be a serious epic, not a comedy. Almost two hours of music very much in keeping with the previous three movies. There may be jokes and light-hearted movies, but there is no way that score accompanies a comedy. It's a very serious score.
