Ooh! One near me at last! [In reply to] Can't Post

But not the chain I'm booked at! Still, if i enjoy the film first time round I'll consider another viewing at the higher film rate.

No Cineworld near me [In reply to] Can't Post

I'm quite annoyed at this as I live a short walk from Edinburgh's Cineworld IMAX (I also own an Unlimited card) and yet they're only rolling out HFR in 3 cinemas in the whole of the UK.

As for Odeon I suppose I could make the trip to Glasgow but still its a tad inconvenient.

22 other Cineworlds yet to be confirmed [In reply to] Can't Post

There will be 25 Cineworlds showing the film at HFR. There's hope yet!

I feel your pain. The nearest one to me, so far, is 1.5 hours.

I didn't know that! [In reply to] Can't Post

I've Tweeted Cineworld to ask about the Edinburgh IMAX but if you say that there's 25 cinemas still to confirm then my hopes are raised. As it stands now the UK is pathetically behind most other countries in the number of HFR 3D screenings. Mad

I thought you found that list that had loads of cineworld cinemas showing it in HFR? [In reply to] Can't Post

Still, the nearest for me is a massive 4 miles away! So not fair! Tongue

That was Showcase cinemas. (I think that's what you mean) [In reply to] Can't Post

I've put the full link in the first message. It's encouraging that more and more are confirming.

As many as possible will want it [In reply to] Can't Post

if it means a reason to charge extra money, lol.

For me if i could be bothered i would go to the IMAX in Manchester as its a proper IMAX so the screen is just massive. Perfect for the epicness of the hobbit - and as i dont get ear ache from loud noises i can handle the sound system - i want it so loud i can see the air vibrate! haha.

I am getting a little confused though between where is showing it in 4k or 2k and where is 3D or 2D, and where is HFR or not. For me i am beginning to think 4K will be more impressive than HFR, less of a risk as well.

Have prices gone up to cover the HFR? [In reply to] Can't Post

Incredibly cheeky if they do!

The whole thing just confuses me. I just want someone to tell me what's best, and for my cinema to show it. Wink All I know is that where I'm seeing TH is with a 4K projector, but no HFR.

I doubt they have [In reply to] Can't Post

but i would also think, that they will do so if they can get away with it.

From what it sounds like (non HFR but 4K) that sounds like a good choice - should be crystal clear but have none of the risk with potentially not liking 48fps. is that in 3D or 2D as i think the 3D is 2 layers of 2K image. I have literally no idea if that means it will equal to 4K or not in real terms.

If you go to a big cinema (cineworld sheffield for example) they give you choice over 3D, IMAX or 2D so that is pretty handy, if yours is a big cinema, they may do the same?

I'm rooting for HFR [In reply to] Can't Post

I want to see it as PJ intended but I also plan on seeing it in as many formats as possible.

Also got retweeted by Cineworld basically saying what DainelLB said, that it was still TBC but should know soon. Praying for HFR and preferably in IMAX where I am. If not then a standard size screen in HFR will have to do.

Is there any way to find out if your local cinema has 4k or not?

The Odeon list has one 45 mins from me - that's a great improvement on Liverpool (6 or 7 hours) which is how we started!!

No, prices haven't been raised for HFR. [In reply to] Can't Post

Warners anounced that they'd be no extra charge for the format, which is fantastic news as there are already IMAX and 3D supplements to tempt/confuse/annoy audiences. An extra extra charge would have put a lot of people off HFR and the whole thing would have flopped.

Dear Lord, a few weeks ago I was convinced I wasn't going to get to see AUJ in HFR at all (in northern England)! Now, it seems I have a handful of options! Thanks DLB! You've made my day. Week. Year. PS I'll still be going to my 2K, non-HFR local cinema on opening night, though. I want the story to come through first. I'll melt my face off with the technology afterwards.

Weird [In reply to] Can't Post

I'd assumed the big Leicester Square Odeon would be on that list. I might have to make a trek up to Kensington at some point to find out what HFR is like.

Seeing as HFR doesn't look like film, I'm not too fussed [In reply to] Can't Post

Every time I see a part of TH I think 'does this look filmic enough?' I want it to have the same epic, filmic look as FOTR. The little clip of Radagast at the start of Vblog #9 showed that they have achieved this, though that was at 24fps. At 48fps it will look like video.

How do you know that it "will look like video?"

Have you seen any full-length 3D film in 48 FPS?
