Coolest Middle-earth Place Can't Post

sorry to use the word "cool" again. but couldnt think of anything else to describe what i meant. I voted for Moria, massive dark halls, long dangerous stairs, crazy bridges with deep falls and its got sooo much potential in a literary and cinematic sense. soo coolCool

Assuming you mean "Book" Middle Earth [In reply to] Can't Post

I would choose Lothlorien. It always felt like "home" whenever I was reading that section. "Movie Lorien" on the other hand, left me a bit cold. And dark. And confused. Wink

If I were to choose a "movie" Middle Earth place I would choose The Shire hands down. Who wouldn't love to be one of those hobbit children running through the grass, following Gandalf's cart? The Shire was very well done in the movies.

I always vote for Rivendell in these polls, but... [In reply to] Can't Post

I love Lorien and Hobbiton and Bree, too. I always view Rivendell as very cosmopolitan, but Lorien has only elves and is somewhat of a "closed" society.

Hobbiton--what's not to love? Spending all your time growing your food and eating it? Sounds great.

Bree--again, cosmopolitan. But a little dangerous. I always think of The Prancing Pony as being the ultimate in rest for the weary traveller (in good times, not when dangerous types are about.)

I think it's got all the good characteristics of the other places put together, without the silly singing.

Plus two of my favourite characters end up living there.

Isengard [In reply to] Can't Post

if it's pre-Saruman. I always thought it to be even more fey than Lothlorien.

and if Saruman already got his hand on it, then I'd say Moria. very imaginative. I always try to picture it with all the torches ablaze, dwarves rushing in all directions, all the bustle and voices and everything. fascinating place, even for someone with claustrophobia and "underground-cave-phobia" Smile

it's an underground thing [In reply to] Can't Post

being underground makes me feel claustrophobic, no matter how spacious the place actually is.

I like to stay above ground and have a window with a view Smile and there's probably not many windows in Moria

Rivendell [In reply to] Can't Post

Though Lothlorien and Moria are my favorite parts of the whole story; Rivendell is probably the place I would consider the coolest and where I would like to "live". I love mountains and fast flowing rivers and pine trees; so Rivendell is perfect. I love the magical feel of Lothlorien and the city in the trees though; so if I could somehow be in front of both at once it would be a difficult decision as to where I wanted to hang my hatSly
