I do get your point that most of what we've seen of Radagast is comedic, except perhaps when he is caring for the sick hedghog. That's why I (the eternal optimist) am looking forward to other characterizations of Radagast, more than the few seconds that have been shown.
I also like when you mentioned "Gandy's not demeaning Raddy doesn't really tell us anything about the Brown Wizard, it simply tells us about Gandy." Gandalf hesitates to outrightly criticize Saruman until he is imprisoned and escapes, although he had personal doubts.

A foolish-seeming exterior does not necessarily mean a foolish mind. All the wizards have their eccentricities (Gandalf's is pipeweed and hobbits, Saruman's is "metal and wheels"). Radagast's eccentricities show more on the surface and Saruman may have made a judgment that would seem accurate on first glance, but I expect we'll be shown something more than mere eccentricity in Radagast.

At 12:42, as Dave opens the door into Theatre Two, you hear a booming voice say "Well, look who it is!" Then it cuts to a shot of a surly Thorin looking up. We're assuming that the voice is that of the Great Goblin during the scene when the dwarves are first brought before him.

in the French magazine, L'Ecran Fantastique, Armitage states that Orcrist glows blue. So we didn't imagine it, LOL!

I'm not surprised if Orcrist glows blue, and Glamdring doesn't; since Orcrist is a similar design to Sting. Looks like they've got rid of the "mate" connection.

My kids really got it that Raddy loved his birds so much that he refused to take the nest off his head until they were safe and grown. Until then, the poo would have to wait.
It also makes it quite clear that what Raddy cares about and what the rest of us care about are on completely different levels. We don't like poo in our hair. Raddy has more important things to worry about.

and even have them in your hair but not have their lunch running down your face.
Its just a bad bad design choice which adds nothing to the character and actually takes away from him.
Other than that though, i think he looks great, its just a shame they seem to go too far sometimes.

Its just stupid, lol.
For me it kinda encapsulates the worst of what PJ and co do with the films - i know it may sound like im blowing it out of proportion but thats just because i feel they get so much right, that when its wrong it sticks out.
I mean who thinks it genuinely looks good? It just doesnt, most have to just put up with it.
Like i said, i hope the rain comes and washes it away or they just film from his other side. For me it really takes away from the overall look of the character and potentially reduces him as i am just sat there thinking, why didnt he wipe his face? It is just really not needed.
i honestly hate it. Do i hate it more than the axe - hmm tough choice there, lol.
PJ if you can hear me, digitally remove it from every single scene and i will love you forever!

It doesn't bother me either. Do I think it might be a little much? Sure but its not something I'm finding an issue to look past. I've not seen but 1 episode of Dr. Who so that isn't an issue for me. Which sounds like may be a good thing.
In the end I want to see how the character plays out since really he's very bit part in the world of Middle-earth.

But i dont want this thread to be about the poo, it should be about the fantastic vlog as it really was fantastic and it even stopped me thinking about how he has poo all over his face.

Yeah, it is a little so I can understand the dislike I'm choosing to ignore it and enjoy the rest of a fantastic design.
The Vlog was great and I'm finally getting my youtube saver site so I can add this one to the collection because like the rest its just so great to see the process of bringing Middle-earth to life once again on the big screen.

I think the rest of Radagasts design is very good, wizard like but distinctive enough from gandalf and saruman.
As for the vlog although they are all excellent, i think this one could be the best yet (though i said that for vlog 8 as well, haha).
The scene at the beginning looked 3d, even on my crappy laptop!

Each one does get better and better. I will say the one with scenes from comic-con does make me smile a bit since I was in the room when that was going on.

Was great to see the various departments and stages of post production. And as a student who is currently studying animation, I now have a rough idea of what my future may hold.
Some great shots, but in a way I feel I may have seen to much. Dwarf combat looks very intricate, almost mechanincal in the way they coperate with one another, IMO I feel this goes well with thier love of craft and weapons.

...and so glad it was included in the video blog, because the orchestra should not be taken for granted!
They have trained for many years to be able to walk in, sit down, and sight-read perfectly - first time, every time - whatever changes come in, cuts are made, etc. It takes tremendous concentration and skill to do that stuff.
I heard a radio interview with Howard Shore where he said he was very familiar with the London Philharmonic before working with them on LOTR, and in fact he wrote that music specifically for THOSE players. That's a little like writing a line or a role for a specific actor - you can hear them saying it, you know how it will sound.
And in the video blog, the score playing behind the Music portion was subly building, slowly preparing us, and then - Trombones! I loved that part...

Well, Glamdring I'm pretty sure, but even Orcrist. Someone said it glowed, so I was pretty concerned. Looking carefully, it just seems a reflection of blue light; there's a frame with half the blade with light and half without, that means light doesn't come from the sword.
Only Sting needs to glow, and it does indeed... I guess when they fix the "bad" CGI in LOTR, they will add some blue light on it...
