If I make one for myself, I'll have to make two more for the young book fan cousins. =)

It appears that [In reply to] Can't Post

Tolkien has changed the way we spell words relating to dwarves!

I've been noticing how much "dwarves" and "dwarven" are replacing "dwarfs" and "dwarfish". Amazing, isn't it! And I bet that caps like these are going to be hot sellers, once the movies come out - so you'd better get yours on order, now! Smile

If I do get one, I'll make it myself. [In reply to] Can't Post

Or may just a basic bearded hat. It actually looks warm for hiking in the winter.

Yeah, "dwarven" is part of our lexicon now :-)

have you heard the famous quote? [In reply to] Can't Post

The editor who told Tolkien that it was "Dwarfs" not "Dwarves" in the OED, and Tolkien replied "I know, but I've changed my mind since I wrote that."

The way we imagine our lives is the way we are going to go on living our lives.

Oh yes! [In reply to] Can't Post

I recall hearing about that! Laugh

What's funny about it, is that Tolkien worked on the W's in the OED. So I don't know if this is an actual quote, or if it is and he was being very tongue-in-cheek! I do hope the latter.

I've done similar helmets [In reply to] Can't Post

with horns and no beards. I need to cast-on soon for some like the ones in the links. I think I'm going to use my own ginger handspun wool for all that hair on mine, but all machine washable synthetic yarns for the kids'. Holiday sale yarn, here I come!

[I made my young cousins "Viking" helmets around the time How to Train Your Dragon came out. Last year, they picked Star Wars hat patterns (the R2D2 beanie was my favorite). This year, I'm hoping to get some dwarven ones done in time for Christmas...]
