.. and that was such a huge departure, as big as you can get, from the book and the heart of the story. Not only did he think of it, he filmed it, and we are lucky he came to his senses in the last moment, and replaced Sauron with a troll. Clumsy, but at least not as devastating.

I fear we might not be as lucky this time around. There could be changes as severe as that Sauron/Annatar scene from ROTK, in the Hobbit, or worse. But as Aragon said in TTT, "there is always hope!", and so I hope any changes will be only logical and necessary, of the "Arwen at the Ford of Bruinen" type, which was forgivable.
