and exactly as you said, Holm IS in The Hobbit, so it should be an acceptable change to the purists of FOTR. This is just such an easy scene to fix, I'm sure they will.

You know there is a different actor playing Bilbo.

The color of his coat seems rather minor.
Kangi Ska Resident Trickster & Wicked White Crebain Life is an adventure, not a contest. At night you can not tell if crows are black or white.

If you think about it, it's the only scene that directly messes with the continuity of the 6 films. I'm just a continuity junkie though, and for me, If I were to watch all 6 films, that one scene would really take it down a notch. It's not like PJ will change it and then destroy all original versions of FOTR (like some other director who shall remain nameless) If it doesn't get changed, I really won't mind. I would just rather see it happen than not.

Bother me if it did but continuity in things like this don't really make much difference to me. In films, well most decent films, the actors are signifiers of a character or bundle of character attributes or narrative piece or whatever. So in FOTR whilst I am seeing Ian Holm what is signified is Bilbo. The same, one hopes, will be true for TH. So for me I will be seeing Bilbo in TH, Bilbo in the prologue and Bilbo in the rest of LOTR. As such, swapping the actors doesn't really make any difference to me. LR

If Holm wasn't in The Hobbit, I would say leave it the way it is for sure. It just comes off to me as "heres old bilbo, heres young bilbo, oh and here's young bilbo again but he doesn't look like young bilbo"

I would have changed Holm even if he hadn't been in The Hobbit...

but as you said, being him there, it makes no sense not changing him in FOTR.
