Soundtrack question

There have been so many soundtrack threads, and I haven't been able to keep up lately. So sorry if this has been brought up before.
I just wanted to know if anyone who's listened to the entire soundtrack (I haven't gotten around to it yet) has heard anything that resembles the music heard when Gandalf picks up Thror's map in FotR.

... I'd called this "The Lonely Mountain Theme".
I haven't listened to the soundtrack, but from what I've read, I'm so glad it's made in into these films. And I also have a strong feeling it will be THE theme of the third film

It's actually a twisted off-shoot of the Shire theme that is related to Bilbo's "odd" behavior. The stepwise motion is still there, though it's been placed in a minor key and the harmonies are unstable.
You'll see how the connection works when you see the film ... although we explained a little bit in the album notes as well. The breadcrumbs have been waiting for over a decade! :)
There are quite a few instances of the Shire material encountering unexpected harmonic support in the early part of the score. It's so carefully crafted and beautiful ...

I've never know film music as beautiful or as closely entwined with its subject as Howard Shore's 'Lord of the Rings' music - and none that was so worth listening to in its own right. He seems to have a real connection to Tolkien's writing as well as to the films. So far I've resisted the temptation to listen to the whole soundtrack, but the bits I have heard have been magical.

that I have probably listened to the soundtracks more than I have seen the films. I just love the music. Don't get me wrong, I love the films too but its easier to sit down, drive or work and listen to the music and I can place in my mind the exact moments from the film by listening...pure joy! Heard the streaming Hobbit music and I am in love again!
I don't know half of you half as well as I should like, and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve!
