I'm in Illinois right now... [In reply to] Can't Post

but I've lived in Iowa, Florida, and South Carolina. My poor husband has never lived anywhere other than Illinois his whole life. Poor thing. It's good to shake up the dust once in a while and see what life is like some place else if given the opportunity.

Lived here all of my life, although I've travelled quite a bit throughout the US and Canada. Can't beat the weather, and it's not overly crowded where I live - small town USA.

Tolkien fandom is alive and well.

and there is a small, dedicated group of Tolkien fans here. I'm sure there are lots more, but it seems the same crowd shows up at all the events. It's a great group, but we don't get together often enough!

I have to say I am jealous of you. I live in the middle of the state, whereas you are closer to all the IMAXs. Unsure

Southeastern Connecticut, not far from the coast; I grew up in Massachusetts and went to college in Maine, so I haven't moved far.

I know there must be some Tolkien fans in this area, because there's a cinema in Rhode Island which has been showing the Trilogy at least once a year! Laugh The last time I went, Geeky Son and I met up with greendragon and L. Ron Halfelven.

I'm close enough also to Lossefalme, Ethel Duath, silneldor, and Smeagirl/Girllum to have an occasional moot (or attend a Renaissance Faire). I've met up with other local Tornfolks, both active and once-active, at various times, and I know there are several more in this area. Smile

Canada eh..... [In reply to] Can't Post

I am in the province of Ontario, just east of Toronto. I have grown up in the east end, spent a couple years a bit further east in Canada's capital city of Ottawa, and came back to my old stomping ground just east of Toronto.

As for Tolkien being big in this year area.....I wouldn't say the are is known for being a Tolkien area, but there seems to be enough support the for LOTR movies when they arrive here.

What's the matter, James? No glib remark? No pithy comeback?"

But I was born in Arizona, lived early childhood in California. As a teen I lived for a while with my mom and step-father in Samoa; and as an adult I have lived in Hawai'i, New Mexico, and Poland.

Theaters were always packed for Fellowship and TTT here in Tulsa, OK. When ROTK came out, I was in Poland where LOTR is very popular. I went to several all night trilogy marathons. Never an empty seat Smile

They said on the news [In reply to] Can't Post

that it was only visible in Australia, but I thought that surely there would at least be a partial one in New Zealand. Silly news people don't know beans about astronomy. Tongue

But yes, I've seen partial eclipses before and the light is indeed very strange. I can understand why people in earlier times would have been so disturbed by them. But still pretty cool. Smile

If you want to know why I am always going on about earthquakes, have a look here.

If you click on one of the dates at the top, you can see a graphic representation. Since September 4th, 2010, we have been undergoing a series of earthquakes. The most damaging was on 22nd February 2011. 185 lives were lost.
We are up to around 11,000 earthquakes and aftershocks now. Shaky isles indeed.

We've had a real bashing here, but it's my home. I Heart Christchurch.

Originally from Ohio, lived in Massachusetts for awhile (for school), now have lived in Virginia for almost 10 years.

For instance, on the planet Earth, man had always assumed that he was more intelligent than dolphins because he had achieved so much -- the wheel, New York, wars, and so on -- while all the dolphins had ever done was muck about in the water having a good time. But conversely, the dolphins had always believed that they were far more intelligent than man, for precisely the same reasons. -- Douglas Adams
