And I'll take a glass of that stuff. Those goblins do look appropriately disgusting. Ugh, indeed. But at least I'll have Rivendell. Cheers, SA!

I felt our comrade could use a drink. Here, have a glass of this six year old baby... I think mashed potato goblin and cute coblin are fantastic. New, different, fairytalish...ideal. The Rivendell pic is quite lovely. Nice, soft arquitechture. And is it sundown or sunrise? Looks like sundown...guess the meeting shall be longer than expected. Perhaps Radagast shall be brought in to answer for his animal brutality against hedgehogs

But I think Rivendell looks absolutely stunning in the trilogy (I sort of get the Kinkade comparison, but I think the brighter pastels in the trilogy work very well, and the world-class art team from the original films had more talent in the pinky finger of one of their members than Kinkade ever did), with truly incredible art direction and background work, so I guess I'm biased to prefer the original look. :}

It seems Gothmog was just a teaser from those guys and gals at Weta. That's why the elves hide out in solitary splendour; Middle-earth is a scary, gross place at times! I'm glad you'll enjoy the goofy goblins, but it looks like I'll be sitting with my eyes shut a lot in this one, too. At least I've got the Shire and the Last Homely House to look forward to. Radagast will be exonerated of hedgehog harming, mark my words.

The whole ugly looking movie. Just about everything looks dreary and miserable to me. Jackson, who seems to be slightly colorblind, spares us the digital tinting (or "grading") and de-saturation of LotR's but compensates by loading the screen with monotonous, bland colors and ugly designs. Maybe I should amend and say I think the designs are stupid and bad? That might even be closer to my true opinion.

:-) but don't get me wrong: even though I didn't like the look of Rivendell, these pastels, the use of 'flou'-lighting, even unsharp sometimes, the 'kitsch' as SA calls it so elegantly ;) it suits the place wonderfully so I couldn't bother

but this Rivendell looks a bit too much like a matte painting and Peter Jackson developed a strange fondness for salmon-y skies in his recent movies which is not really a look I terribly like.

Rivendell is beautiful! The architecture itself is gorgeously designed. Maybe the colors and trees give off the impression of a Thomas Kinkade painting, but really...how can an Elvish city in a valley NOT look like a Thomas Kinkade landscape? If it was actually a house as described in the book, it would look even more like Kinkade!

Are trolls, wargs, goblins, and dwarves supposed to be pretty to look at? I'm sure once we get to see the inside of the Lonely Mountain, the Mirkwood Elves architecture, Dale, Laketown, etc....we'll get to see the pretty stuff.
