Jim Jannard, Owner of RED Digital Cinema, has seen the 3rd Hobbit Trailer. Can't Post

He posted this yesterday, on RED's community forum.

Quote

It was a big day at RED today.

We loaded and projected the following trailers at RSH [RED Studios Hollywood] today:

The Hobbit (3rd trailer)
Oz
The Great Gatsby
Hitchcock
Flight
Parker
The Man with the Iron Fist
Stand Up Guys

I was truly blown away.

You sure it's not the trailer that has already been released? [In reply to] Can't Post

Because some people label the slightly altered teaser 2nd trailer.

He knows the difference... [In reply to] Can't Post

between a teaser and a trailer.

He also takes great pride that The Hobbit has been shot with his camera system... so I'm pretty sure that we are in for 1 more trailer before the premiere.

My guess is that it will be attached to the North American releases of SkyFall and Lincoln this weekend.

I know there have been hints. [In reply to] Can't Post

I don't want to keep my hopes up for a 3rd trailer just to be disappointed, i guess.

So I seriously doubt it will be out this week.

Uhm.. [In reply to] Can't Post

The first teaser is the trailer with the dwarven-song, right? It was called 'teaser' but it is 2:31 minute, not exactly 'teaser'-length..

So we have the following:

* Teaser / Trailer #1 (Far over the Misty Mountains cold-song) - end of 2011, opening with 'My dear Frodo' by Holm

* Trailer #2 - Opening with 'Far to the east, over ranges and rivers' by McKellen / (19 september) (PJ calls it Trailer 2, so the first one was Trailer 1) / length: 2:19 (different running times with alternative endings)

* TV spot #1 - Opening with 'In a hole in the ground, there lived a Hobbit' by Ian Holm / Length 33sec

* TV spot #2 - Opening with 'Can I help you' by Martin Freeman / Length 33 sec

*TV spot #3 - Opening with 'Something moves in the shadows' by Blanchett / Length 33 sec

* TV Spot #4 - Opening with 'I cannot guarantee the Hobbits safety' by Armitage / 30 sec

* And something in between a teaser/tvspot/trailer: The 1:00min spot (The file I have is named 'Tv-spot #4-extended) opening with 'Far to the east, lies a (...)' by McKellen. This one looks a lot like Trailer 2...

Or am I missing one?

Like i said, there was a slightly altered teaser / trailer 1 [In reply to] Can't Post

They removed some bits (like 2 seconds worth of footage) and replaced them with others to get a lower rating since it played - i think - before the family movie Brave.

Here it is, listed as trailer 2:

A new trailer with Shore's music is essential IMO [In reply to] Can't Post

The trailer from this summer was fine, but they can do so much better.

I hope there is a 3rd one... [In reply to] Can't Post

In my opinion, the last trailer didn't really live up to the bar set by the LotR final trailers, which consistently blew me away. I think it may have been the music, which I found far too generic. Even if they weren't going to use Shore's music (which I would greatly prefer), where was the great trailer music in the tradition of "Gothic Power" and "Requiem for a Tower"?

I want them to have one more shot at it, because I am quite a trailer junkee Cool, and I want that killer trailer that keeps me excited until release day.

"All men dream; but not equally. Those who dream by night in the dusty recesses of their minds awake to find that it was vanity; But the dreamers of day are dangerous men. That they may act their dreams with open eyes to make it possible."

My concern is [In reply to] Can't Post

that if they do too many more trailers, they might start pressing the boundary of showing too much of the movie before it is officially released.

There are tons more trailers to come for DOS and TABA. Howard Shore released some music spoilers. The second trailer appears to have done its job for a broad audience. The first trailer hit the mark for the elite fans like those on TORn. The job of trailers is pretty well accomplished for AUJ, in my opinion. I think this is the time to be working on a killer DOS trailer that maybe could satisfy both "the masses" and the "elite fans" in one go Tongue.

They could have done a better job with the last trailer IMHO. [In reply to] Can't Post

And it has nothing to do with Shore's music being used or not. LOTR trailers were much better.

Considering the movie is 10 minutes short [In reply to] Can't Post

of 3 hours long and we have 2 trailers so far that add up to less than 5 minutes, I personally don't think they are in danger of showing too much.

Being adapted from a book that probably most of the audience has already read or at least know the general beats of the story, they don't really have to hide too many plot details because we already know them.

Disagree about most people knowing the story. [In reply to] Can't Post

I bet the majority of moviegoers hasn't read the book and only know the very basics of the story.

I agree, however, that showing a little more would not spoil it much. The trailers so far really showed nothing.
