With all these new phones, tablets, etc. what's your favorite time waster?

Mine is Spider Solitaire, but I do love Greedy Spiders. Or I would if I were any good at it. I get up to the level where there are two spiders and then my logic starts to fail me. But I'm pretty good using two decks on Spider Solitaire.

is the way you can use it to learn more about someone or something, as well as just for fun. Often, when I am reading a book, I will look up clips about the subject. When I read Andre Agassi's autobiography, it was great to be able to watch clips of particular moments he mentioned in the book. I recently read a lovely compilation about Jennifer Paterson, of Two Fat Ladies fame. I hadn't seen the TV series for years, and had so much fun looking at that again. And, of course, there are all those long lost TV and film memories to enjoy again...

Personalizing, and then re-personalizing my phone
[In reply to]

Besides solitaire, I waste a lot of time trimming music to ring-tone length and assigning different songs to different contacts...for all the many, many calls I don't get . Also, finding or taking the best (or most embarrassing, depending on my mood) photo of those contacts so they show up when they call or text. Change the wallpaper; those that come on the phone are much prettier than my own, but I prefer to use pictures I've taken of places that are meaningful to me. In other words, I mostly waste time in the truest sense of the phrase. But I have downloaded tracks from Spanish language CD's and I have been trying to re-learn some of the Spanish I've forgotten. It's muuuch easier to use my phone instead of a CD player, and it's with me whenever I have a some time to kill.

a large majority of them will probably never be available on DVD here or there. I loved the Two Fat Ladies and was given their TV series on DVD for Christmas one year. It has a "salute" to Jennifer--I wonder if that's the same thing that you saw on YouTube.

anything to get away from Spider Solitare and Greedy Spiders. I'm as tightly stuck to that as the little bugs are stuck to the spider's web in Greedy Spiders.

but it sounds fun. I will have a look for it. I just watched a few episodes of the original TV series. The book I read was: Enjoy!: A Celebration Of Jennifer Paterson Tribute To A Fat Lady By Her Friends. It was one of those books that is great to dip in and out of.

As I suppose you picked up from things she said on the show, she is a recovered alcoholic, and a fully qualified lawyer. She suffered from a very abusive father, who was a doctor, and the family, though well-to-do, were all living in terror of him. If you get a chance to read it, it is fascinating.

I tried the Greedy Spiders game, but I sucked at it. My poor flies all got eaten. Right now, I'm on a quest to get three stars on all my AB levels. I've done it on 3 levels so far. I only have the original AB, Seasons, and Rio. I accidentally loaded Rio before realizing it cost *gasp* niney-nine cents! The other two were free. Now they have a game from the pigs' point of view. I'm waiting for a few more reviews before I get it, but it looks really cute.

I found it very interesting. She has a second book as well, but that seems to be mostly about hunting, and the rural/urban conflict as she sees it, so I have avoided it.

We LOVE that game! It requires you to build a contraption that conquers each level - and oh, the puzzle-solving involved. The only thing that I have to say against it is that when you go to play a previously-played level, you see the previously-played contraption. Thus, if two (or four, in the Notta household) people play the game, the first to play a level spoils it for the later ones. Notta

TORn goes without saying, but I'll say it anyway. But fb seems to have slowed me down a bit: Daniel LB got way ahead of me here. I don't play the games on fb, but I do like sharing entertaining stuff, especially the stuff I see from George Takei. And tvtropes has kept me up way past my bedtime on many occasions. I don't have a new phone or tablet, but I do like listening to books on my kindle, especially when I'm commuting and when I'm drifting off to beddy byes (but not at the same time).

I think it's going to take me a little longer to figure out Towers n' Trolls. Greedy spiders (at least until you have to start freezing one spider while the other one moves) is pretty straightforward.
