There was an official LOTR fan club back in the days. They published the magazines for that trilogy.

I think it could be the new issue of Empire magazine. In their last issue they teased about a great Hobbit edition with revolutionary cover coming next. That must be it!

It does look like a one-of-a-kind edition (made by? in collaboration with? TORn). Whatever it is, I want it NOW!

What do you know,I just bought one of these, and I'm holding it in my grubby paws! Kudos to whoever the Tolkien fan is at my local Barnes and Noble! I work right next to one, and often pop in there on my lunch breaks to kill time. Today I went in looking for The Economist and found this peeking from the other side of the shelf. "Must be SFX," I thought, "in another month they'll be all over the place." Then I saw "TheOne Ring.net Collector's Edition" in the top righthand corner and my reaction was similar to Gloria Stuart in Titanic "Well, I'll be god-$%(*#D!" All I can say is, the folks at Empire had better look to their laurels! I second Daniel's question: What's Topix, precious, and how does it finance? You guys havent got a shadowy connetion to WB now do you?:) How did this come about? is this the start of an Offiical Hobbit CLub magazine?? Dat and double drat, I don't have a scanner, but do you folks mind if I spill a little bit? Index: Pg 4--About the Tribute issue Pgs 6-11: Spotlight on 3 main characters and their actors: Bilbo, Gandalf, Thorin. Pgs 12-13: "The Rest Of The Company: (each Dwarf, plus an inset: "Sexy Dwarves" 14-17; "New Faces" (new characters/actors of trilogy) 18-19: "Familialr Faces" (returning LOTR alumni) 20-21: "Peter Jackson's Unexpected Journey: (a timeline of sorts of the tumultuous events leading up to this moment.) 22-23: "Second Unit, Second Career" (about Andy Serkis) 24-25: "Real Life Wizard: (About Richard Taylor--excuse me SIR Richard Taylor:) 26-27: "Spy Photos" (all gorgeous of course) 28-29: "Where There's A Quill" (about Daniel Reeve, "Middle-Earth's Chief Calligrapher" -ie map-maker, great article!) 30-31: "The Plot" (great spec, and thanks for reproduction of The Scroll) 32-33: "One App To Rule Them All" 34-35: "Excusive Photos" 36-37: How Real Is Too Real?" (A great look at the 48 fps debate, with inset "How To Watch 'The Hobbit") 38-39: "Clifhangers" (in-depth speculation on how the trilogy story arc will unfold. 40-41 "300 Pages, 3 Movies"( Questions about Peter's ambition and motives for the trilogy. Interesting.) 42-43: "The Book Vs The Movie" 44-45: The Tolkien Esate Vs Peter Jackson: An Epic Battle, Or A Media Fabrication?" 46-47: "An Animated Discussion" (a look at the animated Hobbit versions--interview with a film historian) 48-49: 2 of my faves so far; 'You Might be A Silvan Elf.." and "Dwarven Women" (eg: "When Thranduil sin't looking, you place bets on wh0 can snort Dorwinian wine through both nostrils at once") 50-51: All about "The White Concil" 52-55: "Momentuous Middle-Earth Timeline" (thanks for this!) 56-59: "The Real Middle-Earth" (all things ME and NZ. Can you digitially remove the type so I can put the pic on pg 56-57 up as a poster please?:) 60-66: "Middle-Earth Merch" (ah, all ends of the sectrum--from the Gimli cookie jar to the 2012 Fine Art Liited Edtion Weta peice;;only $7999 ("only costs one semester's tuition!") 68-71: "The Ultimate JRR Tolkien Superfans" 72-75: Spotlight on ME artist Donato Giancola (I'm stunned.) 76-81: "Fantastic Fan Art" 82: "There And Back Again" (tracing the footsteps of the Company in a cided map) I;m just beginning to get into it, and I'm amazed! Hats off to everyone who worked on this..and HOW did you choose that indeed fantastic fan art?!) :

Though guys, I have to wonder about that ad on the back inside cover...."Blowfish for Hangovers'? Huh?! Was that Xo's suggestion? Anticipating the after midnight showing experience maybe? j/k This might be balanced out by some of the great bumpersticker titles in the Fan section: "I Eat Punks Like You For Second Breakfast" (my fave so far) Got to sign off and try to read some of this!
