called Feedback, I believe they changed the name in the late 70s if memory serves me correctly to "the Hype" and later the same year (don't remember the exact year off the top of my head) changing it again to U2. I know Bono's real name is Paul Hewsin (or something like that) but as far as nickname I'm at a loss on that one other than Bono  The edge's older brother was also a guitarist in the band but his name escapes me right now I'll look it up later 
heres as easy one... Name the 80s hairband lead singer known more his sex appeal than his music and the first major band he was in in 1985?

In truth, the band was made up of Australians and Neil Finn, so it's more Australasian than anything else.

Oh, and I agree with you about Russell Crowe.

Well at least you're honest, Sinister...I was prepared to say "And did you Google that?" Well, you got it partially right....many people forget Feedback but I didn't mention that ititeration of U2 since they hadn;t recorded anything yet, still playing in Dublin car parks and high schools...not even clubs yet. After the brief time they were Feedback (around '78 or so) they became U2 and put out an EP of 3 songs, U23, which is a real collector's item, only something like 1000 copies were pressed. I think "Out Of Control", the band's first single later from Boy, was on it. When I meant EQX *might* have played it, they could have played something from U23 in '79-80, just before "Boy", their debut album, came out. As for Bono's full nick..it was "Bono Vox", and he kept it until '83 or so, when he quietly dropped it. The name came from the display window of hearing-aid shop in downtown Dublin, Edge gave it to him. It means, of course, 'good voice'...(I've been to Dublin and actually seen this place, it's right on the main drag not too far from the O'Connell Bridge, and it's been preserved in its origional '70's state as a Tourist attraction....weird huh.) As a matter of trivia.. Bono's real name is Paul Hewson, but he doesn't allow anyone to call him Paul, not even his wife. She said in an interview once that sometimes she just calls him "B". Even weirder, huh.
As for your question...I'll take a gander that you mean George Micheal...or Jon Bon Jovi...unless you mean Micheal Hutchence of INXS, the description could fit any number of singers from back then...
(and to the mods, we're not going to clog this pup with a trivia contest, but we couldn't resist!

There's some past tense reference to Crowded House in this thread. People should know, they still exist! They reformed in 2007, after Neil had done quite a bit of solo work and things with his brother Tim. They have a different drummer, an American named Matt Sherrod. Mark Hart, an American guitarist/keyboardist, has been in the band since 1993. They've released two albums since reforming, Time On Earth in 2007 and Intriguer in 2010.
So the current incarnation of the band is 50% American, 25% Kiwi and 25% Australian.
I have been lurking here for some time but joined the forum specifically because of this Neil Finn development! I was already soooo anticipating this film, and this just puts it over the top. Neil Finn is a hugely talented man, a top-notch songwriter and a wonderful vocalist. I don't have much to add but I share the enthusiasm of everyone else here. This is great news!!!

Well done for coming out of the shadows!
What do you think of the two latest Crowded House albums? I'm not really familiar with them.
It's funny, really, even though I knew they had reformed, I couldn't quite get my head around it. When Paul Hester died, I was so sad about it I suppose I felt like that was the end of Crowded House. I saw them live a long time ago, and Paul was such an integral part of the band I couldn't really imagine them without him.
Do you like Neil's solo albums? Try Whistling This is one of my all time favourites.

Thanks for the welcome. As for the two latest Crowded House albums, I really like Time On Earth a lot. It's an excellent album, maybe not quite at the level of their 2nd-4th albums but still well worth hearing if you're a fan, and as 'comeback albums' go they don't get much better. The first track especially, 'Nobody Wants To' is classic Crowded House.
Intriguer is a little more divisive among fans. It's not a bad album by any stretch, but a bit of a disappointment when all their other albums are so excellent. Some fans love it, but I don't go back to it very often. I'd still listen to it if you're curious, as, like all their albums, it has a handful of gems. It's just overall not as compelling to me.
Paul Hester was great and he is of course missed, but they're still a solid band. Matt Sherrod is a highly capable drummer and their live shows are as outstanding as ever.

I might give Time on Earth a try.
I remember when Woodface came out I totally thrashed it, but I can't listen to it now because it sounds so dated. I still love Together Alone, though, especially Distant Sun, Fingers of Love, and Catherine Wheels.
Generally, if I want to hear Neil Finn now, I like to listen to his solo albums, or some Split Enz.
Have you listened to any Liam Finn? He sounds uncannily like his Dad, but is still a great artist in his own right.

Liam is pretty good. But I don't get why everyone says he sounds like his dad. I think Neil is clearly a better, more distinct singer, simply a stronger and better voice. Liam sounds kind of weak and whiny in comparison, to me. But Neil also sounded a bit that way in his Split Enz days, so maybe Liam will grow too.
I do love Try Whistling This, a really good album. One All is good too, but less to my taste.
I'll only post one video link (could do dozens) but this is Neil Finn at his best. And really, it's probably the strongest performance I've seen any band give on a "Late Night" type show (usually, even great bands sound bad on those shows). His voice is just outstanding here.

Yes, I like One Nil, but definitely not as much as Try Whistling This.
