Happy 25th Anniversary to The Princess Bride!

INCONCEIVABLE!!! Since 1987, The Princess Bride has been one of the great escapes of the age! I remember when I first saw it... my daughters and I were so excited that a virtual unknown actress (Robin Wright) from one of our soap operas (Santa Barbara) was cast as Buttercup and did a GREAT JOB! What are some of YOU favourite quotes!?
I really need these new films to take me back to, and not re-introduce me to, that magical world. TORn's Observations Lists Unused Scenes

Gotta love a man with a goal. :D 25 years?? And it's still as good today as it was when it was made.
Celebrimbor: "Pretty rings..." Dwarves: "Pretty rings..." Men: "Pretty rings..." Sauron: "Mine's better." Sure, that's one of my favorite quotes. But let's face it, there are hundreds of them. Goldman's screenplay, like his book, is inspired; luckily the director and actors were able to do it justice. I read the book in college, and (somewhat like my reaction to the announcement of New Line's LotR project) I doubted that a film could be made successfully... Now, 25 years later, I watch the "Chatty Duel" on YouTube about once a week, I guess.

Love Chris Sarandon's delivery on Humperdink's line: "She is alive, or was an hour ago. If she is otherwise when I find her I shall be very put out." Miracle Max: "The King's stinking son fired me, and thank you so much for bringing up such a painful subject. While you're at it, why don't you give me a nice paper cut and pour lemon juice on it?" So, so many great lines, but also some great visual gags. I loved when Inigo calls for Fezzik to knock down a door for him so he can chase Count Rugan, but Fezzik is carrying the Man in Black who is still recovering from being "mostly dead", so Fezzik hangs him on a candelabrum (or something, I forget what it was exactly). He then goes to find Inigo throwing himself against a door and just bouncing off of it like a puppy, and then just gives it one easy (for him) bash and down the door goes. Great movie!

I loved the way the way they used it in the fairy tale, and as the final words of the grandfather to his grandson at the end... I have the 20th anniversary edition of the film, which has some cast interviews. Mandy Patinkin (sp?) tells a story about how he cried in the theater when he saw the film, and how he was just so moved to have been part of a story that had so much "goodness" in it. I cried the first time I saw it also, for pretty much the same reason. Happy 25th Princess Bride! Thanks for this post!

Well, I didn't like Galaxy Quest, either. But I love Princess Bride! Have you gotten your pirated copy of Season 3 of Downton Abbey yet?

Maybe because I spend so much of my time learning about difficult topics like neuroscience that I just need to be silly sometimes. But I also like my humor to be quick-witted & dry - not the broad toilet/sex humor that seems to pass for comedy in so many movies. I especially love movies where the lines zip by so quickly you have to watch it repeatedly to catch them all.

Thanks for the link to all those great quotes, Squire! Haven't watched The Princess Bride in years, but now I'll have to dig it out again... Inigo Montoya: Who are you? Man in Black: No one of consequence. Inigo Montoya: I must know... Man in Black: Get used to disappointment. Inigo Montoya: 'kay. *LOL*
