Is "The Hobbit" missing a landscape teaser poster? Can't Post

Remember the great teaser poster motives used for the LOTR trilogy (okay, not for ROTK)?

and the unused Barad-Dur concept for ROTK (abandoned in favour of Aragorn with Anduril teaser):

Anyway, these were great posters because they didn't feature anybody from the cast, and as such, found great usage as covers for the Limited Editions DVDs (and now, for separate Extended BluRay Editions).

For my part, I think that The Hobbit (at least, AUJ) lacks such a great poster featuring just a signature landscape of Middle-Earth. The one with Gandalf is great, but... it features Gandalf.

What do you think?

What landscape would you suggest? [In reply to] Can't Post

I think we will get plenty more posters in the coming months, and I'm still waiting for an "official" one that blends in the with the LOTR trilogy posters.

A landscape teaser poster for AUJ would need to say "adventure". So one of Hobbiton is no good. How about the eagles flying over the Misty Mountains?

I'm trying to think of a good landscape [In reply to] Can't Post

And can't come up with anything that says "wow!"

The Lonely Mountain might work for film 2 or 3, but I can't think of anything else.

The Lonely Mountain would be great for TABA [In reply to] Can't Post

And Mirkwood and the Forest River might be good for DOS (or even perhaps Laketown, or part of the desolation).

Nothing really sticks out in my mind apart from the Misty Mountains. Rivendell is too obvious, and we've all seen it before. But then again, any (generic) NZ landscape would look stunning! Sly

Edit: Unless it isn't of Rivendell itself. Perhaps one of the waterfalls?

aw [In reply to] Can't Post

personally I think all the Star Wars bashing is excessive to the point of parody here, it's unfortunate Lucas himself has exacerbated the weird cinematic history and legacy those films occupy.

Crazy

also you are making me drool at the thought of a six film uber bluray EE boxset.

I guess it could be Rivendell [In reply to] Can't Post

There doesn't seem to be anything else Unsure

A waterfall could work, I'm sure. It just doesn't seem to be the defining structure of the film, if you know what I mean.

How about a hill side looking back on Hobbiton in the distance, since that is the very beginning of Bilbo's adventure and represents the path he followed for the rest of his days... Just a thought Wink

Plenty [In reply to] Can't Post

The Shire

The Lonely Mountain/Dale from a flashback (with shadow of Smaug?)

Rivendell valley

The Lonelands/ Trollshaws (perhaps with stone trolls?)

The majestic Misty Mountains (perhaps with stone giant tossing a stone in the background?)

A cavernous shot of Goblin Town, with the Goblin King seated at the bottom?

Almost any landscape in New Zealand looks gorgeous, so it wouldn't take much.

Well I did mention the Lonely Mountain [In reply to] Can't Post

And I had actually thought about the stone giants & the Misty Mountains, but I'm not sure I like that idea. It could be cool, though. Not sure.

I'm not sure about any of your other options. I guess I'd need to see some of them as posters before I could decide. Smile

Im more abstract. When I'm reading, especially, I don't form images so much as an impression. So, yes, I'd have to see said posters before judging them.

Shire Poster [In reply to] Can't Post

I guess we have had a Hobbiton poster already...I know it has Gandalf on it, but he doesn't dominate the image, so it could fit the pattern...

Like the Argonath poster. We need something big, bold and in your face. It needs to say: "unexpected journey". It needs to be colourful, eye-catching and mesmerizing.

The sad thing is, [In reply to] Can't Post

The Argonath sequence couldn't have been done in the same way with the 3D technology used for The Hobbit.

It would have to be completely CGI.

The new WETA maps label Carrock. [In reply to] Can't Post

I know it doesn't mean anything, but ... I think in the annual it also has the Middle-earth map, with the journey the company take. And if I remember rightly, it does go over Carrock.

On a separate note, the WETA map also labels "Woodmen" on the eaves of Mirkwood. I wonder if we'll be seeing them?

This view of Rivendale Valley by the Brothers
Hildabrant (I think?)
It one of the Most
iconic moments...
to little ol' me.

Many reasons I love it.

1. Tolkiens version of Shangri-la
2. Safe haven from any harm
3. Immortals live there (Mount Olympus Anyone?)
4. Most precious place to really rest.
5. The Goal at the end of anyone's. ..Life Journey
6. One of Tolkien's most beautiful creations
7. The reason to save MiddlEarth
8. The only Seat of the Highest learning ( Oxford imagined?)
9. A pillow for your dreams

10. You get to go there!
