So, what are your "Hobbit" plans? Can't Post

All this stuff and nonsense about the commercial (as opposed to the artistic) side of Sir Peter's current project has got me in a financial state of mind. Believe it or not, all day at work today, in the back of my mind, I was doing some calculations, mentally adjusting my calendar and my bank account, based on current and forseen future projections. This has got me to wondering, where my fellow Tornsibs are in their "Hobbit" preperations? What are your "Hobbit"plans, starting, say, Oct 1st? (seeing as people are lining up in Norway already!?!)
When, how, and in what fps are you planning on seeing it in? Midnight showing? Line parties, and when are YOU planning to line up? Moots? Can you, way early on? Who are you going with,, how many times, etc. What merchandise are you buying, for who, etc etc.
And are you taking any off this stuff seriously? After all, it's just a movieCool (....stage whisper: "NOT." )

I'll make my own list.

--1)Tickets: I happen to be very lucky, and have Wednesdays off from work. So on Wednesday, Nov. 7th I'll be right at my theater of choice, buying in person (I live only minutes away, and besides, on special occasions such as this, I don't trust to Fandango!Smile)

--2)Showings: I plan on going to the midnight showing, at our town's only IMAX theater, they only have one IMAX (or rather, BABYMAX) screen at my local mall 18-plex, and so I have no choice as to the fps. I hope the midnight IMAX showing is in traditonal something. I plan on buying for myself, a friend, and possibly a fellow Albany, NY sib if he wants me to.
Depending on if my town gets 48fps, I'll be seeing it at least 3 times: the midnight showing Dec 13th (14th), once Saturday night (15th), and once the follwing weekend in 48 fps if possible. Once in 3D, once in 2D, and yikes....

3)Check one: (this is according to Empire Magazine's helpful guide to "Hobbit" formats in the October issue--theaters will have to pass out maps with film type keysCrazy showing what theater is what format. Would be cool if it was in the style of Thorin's map.)
-2D 24fps (tradtitional film)
-2D IMAX 24 fps
-3D 24ps (traditional 3D)
(oh yeah, and in the U.S. there's also " REAL" 3D vs some other kind of 3D--and we're still in 24 fps:)
-2D 48fps (this will exist?! It's not enough to tell the ticket lady, "I want 2D, not 3D"--you can't assume it's normal" if it's 24, then--is your head spinning yet?!? Grrr.)
-3D 48fps
-3D IMAX 48fps
(Let me correct that: Is your head EXPLODING YET?!CrazyLaugh
This should also be nteresting b/c with digital, a theater can presumably add or drop formats based on customer demand. If this is the cae, it will be interesting to see which format swiflty proves most popular.)

For me, see above.

4)When are you buying tickets? Where (online or in person? And it would be nice to add what your journey to your theater will be like--distance, methhod of travel, and BTW where you are.)

5)Who are you going with for each showing? How any times will you see it?( Again, for me, see above). .

6) Are you going to a line party?
(Well, as my theater is in a huge shopping mall, the chance of line parties more than 24 hrs in time leght are impossible. At least in winter. Though for The Phantom Menace, that was such a HUGE insane oaccasion, the mall security bent the rules a little, and allowed fans to camp in the parking lot 36 hrs or so in advance. I suspect many of them were childhod fans too. Heck, in 1999 we were all of an age. Even the police.Tongue I could tell some other line stories but I'll save that for later in the thread, after youve shared yours!
I'll be getting out of work at 5 on Thursday and racing directly to the theater, and I know the lnes wll have started early in the morning. Extra sweaters, bag with books, food and drink (something hobbity I am sure like scones and tarts and muffins!) etc.

7) How are you saving money? (I started a Hobbit fund during the summer, which is filling up slower than I hoped, but will, God willing, greatly increase from Nov. 2 on, since due to a quirk of the calendar, I will be getting an extra paycheck that month!)

8) What do you plan to buy?
(Well, Empire magazine is the first essessinal, I still have the LOTR ones, they have the best magazine Tolkien film coverage ands down. All the major magazine articles. I have ENtertainment Weekly subscription already so that doesn;t count. Starting Dec 10 , every USA Today and NY Times issues with HObbit relate stuff in them, I had a ritual of hauting the drugstores every day to look through the paers. I know, I know..I save things, OK?:)I have a big box set for all this.
--all the major tie-in books
--finally buying paperbacks of the HoME, which I have yet to finish
--The BBC LOTR radio recording, someone give me info on the name of this and if Band Noble carries it--you know, Ian Holm as Frodo)
--the soundtracks, of course
--I will FINALLy complete my "mission-quest-thing" to acquire The LOTR Complete Recordings, which I couldnt afford back then, AND Doug's Music of LOTR book, ditto
--Any Hobbit-related books of same
--MAYBE a Tuariel figure (funny, I never liked toy tie-insl but someone gave me a Arwen on her palfrey action figure and love it)
--besides, the DVD's, any EE's IF we have them, though if each film is 2 hrs long I don't know if we will
-a 2013 Hobbit calendar of course
--THe Frodo Franchise" in paperback, my hard-cover is getting dog-eared
--I have LOTR Monopoly and I'd love to have TH same

That's all I can think of, for now--as to its importance--that too for later!
