Hobbit trilogy has been chosen for this year's 65th Royal Film Performance. Can't Post

http://www.bbc.co.uk/...inment-arts-19698562

The first part of Peter Jackson's Hobbit trilogy has been chosen for this year's 65th Royal Film Performance.
Based on the novel by JRR Tolkien, The Hobbit is set 60 years before the Lord Of The Rings, which Jackson also made into a trilogy of films.
The Hobbit's cast stars Sherlock's Martin Freeman as Bilbo Baggins.
Organisers of the performance said they are "thrilled" that The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey will have its Royal UK premiere in London on 12 December.

It means members of the Royal family will attend the premier [In reply to] Can't Post

Which will only add more media frenzy to the premier in the UK.

- that was the first movie shown for the Royal Film Performance -

Starring David Niven, Kim Hunter, Robert Lindsey, Raymond Massey - One of my all-time favourites. Now that's what I call a wonderful fantasy film for all the family.

A royal welcome for The Hobbit? Thats awesome. [In reply to] Can't Post

All involved with the film must be thrilled to have The Hobbit as the 65th Royal Film Performance, it will make the event even more special. I would LOVE to go to this event.

I wonder what the Royals think of Tolkien? Would be intresting to find out.

But, I get the impression that 7 out of 10 Irishmen can make that claim!

Well then [In reply to] Can't Post

It better be good!

And since the Royals are likely to find the axe-in-the-head gag in poor taste, PJ may have to release a version of the film where it is digitally removed!

Yeah! Smile

Axe-in-the-head [In reply to] Can't Post

I actually don't believe it will be a gag. Maybe Bifur will get a joke or so at his expense, but I don't think that's why his character has an axe in the head. I think they're just trying to give him some history and a war injury, and an explanation to why Bifur can't speak (if those rumours are true)

Just as Richard Harrow on Boardwalk Empire - his injury is a big part of his character got nothing to do with any gag. I'm not going to say that's how Bifur will be treated - it's just my guess.

I'm descended from King John, he of the Magna Carta. And Henry VIII, by marriage, apparently. Sadly I don't think these are recent enough links to get a ticket ...

I don't think I'm comfortable with the idea of a filmmaker editing his work simply because a group finds it to be in poor taste.
