*** World Hobbit Day *** Party Shire Medley (a medley of parodies) link to audio musical performance and lyrics
|

|
|
My fellow Hobbit Day celebrators! Happy Bilbo's-and-Frodo's Birthday! I hope everybody's enjoying the various activities and goings-on. I certainly have been. Unfortunately I begin on a down note. Quacking Troll and I were hoping and working toward having a duet video posted for today's celebration, but alas, that didn't work out under the circumstances. Sorry to be the bearer of this news. No one is more disappointed about it than I. Q also had put in time and effort preparing for this, but sadly his contribution did not become available in time for today's event. I last heard from him yesterday. I'm hoping for his response to my latest email of a moment ago to know that he's still OK. So this here is my (mostly*) solo audio we were hoping to use as part of the duet. It's really rough, folks, and it wasn't intended to be the final product, plus it's my debut in posting my own musical performance, so please don't set your expectations very high. The parody lyrics were written by yours truly. The medley was arranged by yours truly. *The linked recording features performances and contributions by the following: Yours truly on lead vocals, accompanying vocals, and acoustic guitar. Mini-Ruxendil Thoorgette (20 months) (my number 2 of 2) on "background impromptu sound effects" (from her Potty Time With Elmo audio story book) during the "Long Expected Party" segment . The plan was to have Quacking Troll share parts of the vocals and acoustic guitar. His voice would have taken the lead on segments 1, 2, part of 4, 5, and 7. The recording, in its present unfinished form, was produced/edited by yours truly. It was meant to be used as a working template for a duet that would have been done on video, which would have been made by Quacking Troll. The medley consists of parodies of parts of the following songs (in order of appearance): 1. LMFAO, Party Rock Anthem, 2. The Kinks, Well Respected Man, 3. Carly Rae Jepsen, Call Me Maybe, 4. Far East Movement, Like a G6, 5. The Beatles, Octopus' Garden, and 6. The Rolling Stones, Mother's Little Helper Below are the lyrics to follow along: 1. Shire Party Rock Anthem (LMFAO, Party Rock Anthem) Bilbo Baggins in da house tonight, Everybody just have a good time, The One Ring make you lose your mind, But tonight we just have a good time.... Frodo Baggins in the house tonight Everybody just have a good time, The One Ring make you lose your mind But tonight let's see you shake that In the Shire, party rock Lookin' for my door? Just come and knock (huh!) You'll stop when you see the mark Wizard put it there like he owns the block What the track? I gots to know Far Over them Misties Tall and Cold, Half Baggins half Took all burglar Steal the money, out the door Yo I'm runnin through this Contract like sprint track I got that Bandobras flow, rock and roll, no pillow, we party Rock yeah, with the crew here with Thorin. On our way to see Smaug, let's hope he be snorin' Bilbo Baggins in da house tonight, Everybody just have a good time, The One Ring make you lose your mind, But tonight we just have a good time.... Frodo Baggins in the house tonight Everybody just have a good time, The One Ring make you lose your mind But tonight let's see you.... Shake that On the road I’m shufflin’…. 2. Unexpected Party (The Kinks, Well Respected Man) So it’s just before his tea-time When the bell rings at the door, It’s a Dwarf who says “…at your service!” Then the strained reply: “… at yours!” Gandalf knows he’s too surprised for question -ing, it never fails. And it’s all so good, And it’s all so fine, And the Dwarves keep coming And the next you know, there’s nine. It’s an unexpected party for a Hobbit who lives so conservatively. And the nine become the thirteen When that Gandalf shows at last. And he serves the tea with seed-cake While they talk about their past, And he passes tarts as well as pie To every reaching hand. And it’s all so good, And it’s all so fine, And the Dwarves keep eating And keep talking as they dine. It’s an unexpected party for a Hobbit who lives so conservatively. 3. Make It, Maybe (Carly Rae Jepsen, Call Me Maybe) I signed a deal on the line A fourteenth share will be mine By will of fortune divine And now we're on our way I trade my hole for a wish My comfy hole I will miss I wasn't looking for this but now we're on our way Three Trolls are holdin' Us all, nowhere goin' Until daylight showin' Gandalf where‘d you go to baby? Hey I just met you, This is crazy Your lucky number Will make it, maybe It's hard to look right When you're shakin' Your fourteenth number Will make it, maybe Hey I just met you, This is crazy Your lucky number Will make it, maybe And all the ugly Orcs try to chase me Your treasure hunter Will make it, maybe 4. Three-Six (Far East Movement, Fly Like G6) Poppin' rockets in the skies, by a wizard, Hair be coverin' my toes brown and bristled Smokin' Toby in my pipe, Party Tree's big, Now I'm standing so high, like three-six, Like three-six, like three six, N-N-N-Now I'm standing so high, like three-six, Like three-six, like three six, N-N-N-Now I'm standing so high, like three-six, Gimme that birthday cake Gimme that frosty ale Kiddies love my tale At my words they smile or quail Get them rockets poppin We get that dragon that drops Now I give out two more mathoms cuz you know it don't stop Hell yeah drink it up drink-drink it up, When Rosie dances closer, Samwise says he will get drunk He be saying he'll get drunk Sayin sayin he'll get drunk, When Rosie dances closer, says he, says he will get drunk Poppin' rockets in the skies, by a wizard, Hair be coverin' my toes brown and bristled Smokin' Toby in my pipe, Party Tree's big, Now I'm standing so high, like three-six, Like three-six, like three six, N-N-N-Now I’m standing so high like three-six Like three-six, like three six, N-N-N-Now I'm standing so high, like three-six, 5. The Party Tree (The Beatles, Octopus' Garden) I’d like to see the Party Tree At the long-expected party near Bag End. He’ll let us in, at Hobbiton, To his long-expected party near Bag End. Otho my love, you’ll come and see The long-expected party with me. I’d like to be under the Tree At the long-expected party near Bag End. 6. Long Expected Party (The Rolling Stones, Mothers Little Helper) What a drag it is on my soul. My dear Hobbits here today for Frodo’s and my birthday. Don’t know half of you half well as I should like, Less than half of you good sirs, like but half well as deserved. Now I’m running for the shelter of my precious little helper, It’s THE END, GOODBYE tonight, disappear right from your sight. Gandalf please, won’t you ease Me out the door, can take no more. What a drag it is on my soul. 7. Shire Party Rock Anthem reprise. Get up, move on, road goes ever on and on Get up, move on, road goes ever on and on Get up, move on, road goes ever on and on Road goes ever on and on Road goes ever on and on Get up, get up, get up, get up, get up, get up, get up, get up, get up Road goes ever on and on On and on Road goes ever Road goes ever Road goes ever Road goes ever..... All da Hobbits in the house tonight Everybody just have a good time The One Ring make you lose your mind But tonight we just have a good, good, good time Oh –h-h-h (So good so fine), Oh-h-h-h (I can make it, maybe!) Oh –h-h-h (Like three six) Oh-h-h-h- (Won't you ease me) Shake that! On the Road I'm shuff- shufflin'….! * * * Thank you for listening/reading! Here I go, nervously hitting "Post Message".....

Your lucky number... ugly orcs... This is OH SO GOOD!!! WOW! Your first time!? One song after another and I couldn't stop giggling! What a wonderful treasure this is. I hope Quaking Troll is okay... but we know better than anyone that RL happens and we can't always be where we want to be. You can still shoot for April's Founder's Day... but I think this is brilliant! You're VERY VERY GOOD! I love Mini-Rux's contribution! You've picked so many songs that I just love! THANK YOU SO MUCH! *walks off whistling*

What a fantastic medley - I agree with Ethel, we need to devise a "TORn grammy" for you! Please let QT know we all hope he's okay, and if he can still join with you on this later on, we'd love to hear your dual effort too! Thank you so much!

Thank you, gramma! A humble thank you. . It's my first time uploading / posting a performance on these boards, or anywhere on-line. Thanks for sounding surprised. . I have performed music for audiences and on recordings before, but have never before posted anywhere on the internet for the world to hear. Still waiting to hear from our musical friend.

Thank you dernwyn, I'm truly glad you enjoyed it! I love the graphic of the award Ethel made for me in her post above, did you see it? I will convey your kind thoughts to Q as soon as I get the chance. I'm still hoping to hear from him soon and that we'll complete a duet.

This is my very last party-post to visit and it was worth the wait! Party Rock Anthem was the tune I knew best, and that was perfect for the celebration -- even with only 1/2 of what you had planned! On the Road, I'm shufflin' -- ha! Thanks for a most excellent contribution! You have some skill with a song!

It would be great to hear the final version cut one day. I was singing along here...particularly, it must be admitted, with the octave up on 'Call me Maybe'. "Gandalf where'd you go to baby?" Bravo!

I'm very glad, and relieved, that you enjoyed it. I hope to be able to do an encore of some kind and in not too far future. Glad also that you found that the LMFAO song worked for this purpose, which was exactly what I was hoping. . Interestingly you're the first so far who has said Party Rock Anthem was the most familiar. I wasn't sure how well known to TORn board participants and visitors that song would be, relative to the other songs in the medley. Might make for an intriguing Pollantir Poll.

Especially grateful for the kind compliment coming from you, a musician and parody lyricist your own right. Also you're the one, through your parody Call Me Legsy , who introduced me to the Carly Rae Jepsen song in the first place. Props for that! I wonder if you might ever be interested in some kind of musical collaboration with me. If so I'd be delighted to try something along those lines.

Though rather boring if you happen to be the tuba player in the band, says my son -- he has like 4 notes! -- unless they put the dance steps in. Here's a link to one of the more entertaining versions I've seen on-line: Party Rock Anthem Band Number (Make sure to watch to the end to catch the dancing!)

I hadn't known it was a popular marching band number, but I can see why from the clip. Marching band can be fun and hip, and that performance shows it. . I like how they actually chant the "shake that" and the "Every day I'm shufflin'" parts. It makes me all the more glad I included those parts in the medley. Enjoyed that clip, thanks weaver!

for introducing you to that song. A future collaboration would be fun, although as I am moving into student halls later this week, they might not appreciate my efforts. We could do something fairly awesome with parody carols at Christmas. Thanks for the compliment

I admit to liking the song, even if it's in a " guilty pleasure" / "no grown man should be caught dead or undead listening to it and should have to relinquish his manhood if he's ever caught dancing to it" kind of way Christmastime parody collaboration could work and would be fun indeed! I'll p.m. you about it. And you're welcome.
