Is it necessary to have a whole thread... Can't Post

Equal Opportunity [In reply to] Can't Post

It's equal opportunity for anyone who feels only the happy fuzzies are an agreeable point of view. Gosh, it's almost a religious issue, isn't it?

Not the intent [In reply to] Can't Post

The subject of the post was a bit confrontational, but the body of it wasn't at all: he just voiced what he likes and disagrees with, just like everyone else here. I changed the subject line to be less confrontational, but there's nothing wrong with the post, or the thread, itself.

Ha! [In reply to] Can't Post

I guess what bothers me, though, is that thread isn't commenting on the trailer, as much as it is commenting on the people criticizing the trailer.

There are already multiple threads praising the trailer.

That was the same problem I had with the thread [In reply to] Can't Post

And it's what's keeping me from posting in it now, even though I quite enjoyed the trailer. There are positive things I'd like to say, but I don't find it very productive to mix those with critiques of other people's opinions.

Must just be a difference of opinion.

Macrocosm [In reply to] Can't Post

And such a thread would be a macrocosm of the rule against ad hominems.

I am disturbed by a recent admin post, within a post about an official action and not just personal opinion, expressing happiness that the "Official Disappointment" thread is nearly off the main page. So much for the official respect of other's points of view.

I'm pretty sure that wasn't the said admin's intent, [In reply to] Can't Post

But yeah, it read strange, and could easily be taken in the wrong way (as it was). Even I, who have read thousands of her posts before and know her style well, went "Huh?" for a moment.

But even in this case, all would benefit from a more charitable reading of other's posts.

Thanks [In reply to] Can't Post

Since I've never seen anything snarky from the admin before either, I'll take your suggestion and just give it a more charitable reading.

I think it's like our local radio Jascha Heifitz obit many [In reply to] Can't Post

years ago. The local announcer was supposed to end the news segment with a story on the death that day of the great violinist.

What he actually said was, "And finally, Jascha Heifitz has died." He had no idea what he'd said until the manager came storming in and yelled "Do you know what you just said!?"

It's hard being and admin, or an announcer I guess!Evil

What! [In reply to] Can't Post

You've never seen anything snarky from me? Oh dear, what a reputation, I shall have to rectify that! Wink

You're right, what I wrote sounds rude and is way off what I meant, and that last line should have been in a separate paragraph (or not stated at all) - I was realizing that I wouldn't have time right then to let haarp know I'd changed his thread title, and was relieved that the thread would shortly be off the main page so the change would hopefully not be noticed much... Blush

I should know better than to post when being constantly interrupted during lunchtime! Don't my co-workers realize how important TORn is? Angelic

Maybe I should edit that line out...

That's how I took it [In reply to] Can't Post

...that it would be less confusing that the subject line changed than if it had been done when the thread was at the top of the board.

They had it on a bloopers show, and [In reply to] Can't Post

he was able to laugh about it--by then!

I think life was easier when it wasn't so darn public!
(But then we'd miss all the fun here!Smile)
