The Imdb Disappointed Thread Can't Post

As posted here: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0903624/board/thread/204703166

Well, now that we've all seen the trailer at least 5 times by now, we can form an opinion.

CRAP.

This is NOT LOTR: II.

This makes as much sense as "The Officially Really Excited Thread". Can't we keep all opinions in one thread instead of going off to our separate threads? [In reply to] Can't Post

I love it, after a second viewing (and with much better quality and sound)! It's amazing!

The one bit I don't like is the end, and the Goblin King falling down.

Of course it isn't! [In reply to] Can't Post

The Hobbit is a different story than LotR, and PJ&co is channeling the more whimsical tone for this film. I can guarantee you, though, that the films take a darker edge as the trilogy progresses. After all, we have to wait till the next film(s) until the "epic war" storyline kicks in with Smaug, Dol Guldur, and the Battle of the Five Armies. This isn't Narnia: the end victory will come at a great, irreversible cost. But first we get to see all the characters in their pure, optimistic form.

why i'm not impressed: [In reply to] Can't Post

- too crisp images
- too much greenscreen
- still don't like some dwarf-design
- gollum is too cute!!!

the visual charm of the trilogy is gone with that digital RED-camera.

and i think it was a bad idea making 3 movies instead of 2.

in the end, i hope i will change my mind...

WHAT HAPPENED TO THE LOTR FEEL FROM 1ST TRAILER???! [In reply to] Can't Post

Why? Why the narnia feel, the stupid looking dwarfs and craploads of CG. This trailer definently didn't feel like Middle Earth, i sure hope the movie will be more like trailer 1. Maybe this was just a trailer for the mainstream viewers, for mainstream it was.

Pessimists have no disappointments.

THANK YOU FOR THIS THREAD . . . [In reply to] Can't Post

. . . cause not all of us are happy, and I for one need to vent.

Been trying to get on to post for over an hour . . . it this is what it's like here when a trailer is issued, I'll pass until it quiets down!

1) The trailer is wonderfully done . . . it seems to include many of the scenes from the book interspersed with high-energy scenes that will draw the mindless action-movie hoards. So, WB has what they want . . . a well produced trailer that will draw crowds.

however . . .

2) The trailer I saw was for a prequel to the Lord of the Rings . . .
. . . NOT THE HOBBIT.

I am utterly disappointed. PJ seems to have taken the opportunity to add a mega-battle that HAS LITTLE TO DO WITH THE HOBBIT except that it seems to be based on the Goblin Town part of the book. TOO MUCH GARBAGE, TOO LITTLE STORYTELLING!

RA disappoints thus far as Thorin. I liked little of what I saw of him.

I can probably get used to the Narnia theme going through my head . . . not sure yet. I'll have to watch it a few more times to see if the music fits, as I was constantly distracted by the stuff that didn't belong.

PJ seems to be trying to connect the Erebor storyline and the Dol Guldur storyline when there was little or none in the book.

What the %^@&& was that battle on the mountainside . . . I must have missed that in the book?! Was that the Great Goblin hurling rocks around like a freak . . .

I am so disappointed . . . . . . . . . .
. . . . . . . . . and, I have been called for a 2nd Interview for a job, so I have to prepare for that . . .
. . . but I'll be back!

The Road goes ever on and on
Down from the door where it began
Now far ahead the Road has gone
And I must follow, if I can

"Thorin sat up with a start. 'Something is not right,' he muttered to himself as he stood up and
looked towards the mirror . . . . . . . . . 'Durin's bones', he gasped, 'what's happened to my beard?'"

doesn't look like the Hobbit to me . . . [In reply to] Can't Post

. . . looks like a few scenes from the Hobbit, some extra stuff with Elrond and Galadriel and Radagast, and a hodge-podge of some of the worst overblown battle scenes from King Kong and the LOTR . . .
. . . I'm surprised Legolas didn't show up to kill the Great Goblin . . . maybe he did and I missed it. Mad

Sorry . . . disappointment brings out my sarcastic side . . . Evil

I thought overall it was good but certainly doesnt have any consistency with the LOTR trilogy and it doesnt feel much like ME, more like tintin or narnia.

I think though its hard to tell from a 2:30 trailer and hope it doesnt look so fake when in the cinema.

Umm... seriously? [In reply to] Can't Post

The "mountainside battle" was the part in the book with the stone giants. There was a huge talk about it after it appeared in the Facebook vlog 8. They're not "battling" the stone giants, they're just weathering the attack. It most certainly is in the book, if elaborated. Don't get all twisted in a knot.

. . . the trailer was flawless in it's production and does what it's supposed to do . . . draw the unknowing action movie crowd . . .
. . . but contained little I recognized as the Hobbit. Unsure

Oh no. Don't be too dis-heartened. [In reply to] Can't Post

It is only the trailer, and they normally fill it to the brim with all the action-y stuff.

The underlying story will still be The Hobbit. :-)

I didnt feel a single goosebump on this trailer [In reply to] Can't Post

...it might be because of the way it was edited (too whimsical?)
...the music they used was kinda generic
... it ends abruptly (not the usual LOTR trailer endings of just images and rising music...)
...it feels modern (probably because of the way it was digitally shot)
...it's too busy. it has too many things going on

Yes... maybe I'm comparing it too much to LOTR. I know it's a different story but still... I still expect the same level of gravitas for the movie.

Hated it [In reply to] Can't Post

-Bilbo and Gollum was too whimsical. That is supposed to be a scary part of the book, and Bilbo is not afraid at all.

-Bilbo appears to be an expert sword fighter.

-Scenes like the stone giants have been greatly exaggerated to be life-or-death situations.

-Bunnysled.

-The ending. I hated the "You gotta be kidding me" punchline. I feel like this film will be a series of whimsical punchlines. Everyone will be laughing at scenes that should be serious, because some of them could have been crushed. I don't feel any sense of danger in this film.
